Ah, what might have been!
Very good (and fortunate) tactic by Slot to bring the subs on before the corner.
Didn’t give us time to adjust defence by bringing on morato etc
Disappointing we conceded from a corner (first of the season?) and let a small player win the header.
A direct result from the substitution causing momentary disorganisation?
Disappointed we haven’t a system in place to prevent blocking on the keeper.
More disappointed we couldn’t control the ball when we did have it up front.
Disappointed MGW over elaborated and we lost the ball unnecessarily.
The touch when Taiwo kicked it into touch in front of Nuno trying to turn when we had a break on summed it up for me (and the need to upgrade Taiwo, I’m afraid).
However, it was a plan that NEARLY worked.
Incredible team spirit.
Incredible effort
Incredible atmosphere
And a massively improved squad which represents the work of the players, Nuno, EM and recruitment team.
We are still overachieving and need to make one or two small steps this month and the dream really is within touching distance.
These positives massively outweigh the disappointments of the evening and I’m incredibly proud… and, believe it or not, optimistic!

On the Sky Sports News recap of the match they keep playing a clip of the crowd singing Zombie to Slot.
Very, very funny.

What a fantastic atmosphere, no matter what happens this season, everyone involved with the Club can be proud of what we have achieved.
They were fully rattled from the off, I have never seen Van Dijk so angry from the first minute, you could see that we had disrupted their mindset because they kept taking pop shots from 25 yards out, it was a little desperate on their part to be honest, and Slot could not focus on his job.
A good point but means nothing if we don’t win on Sunday.

Yeah, I agree with Taiwo, that touch was unforgivable and I also got annoyed with his choice of looking for Elanga, who was exhausted, and not Jota when he got the ball.

Said same to the Wife, VVD was raging at half time with his fellow defenders. Ive no doubt he went mad at HT. Got to give it to him, proper leader

The way Morato man handled him was brilliant.

As was how Murillo cleaned out Luis Diaz off the ball with zero repercussions.

Murillo was absolutely magnificent last night but the MOM has to be Neco Williams who was excellent against Salah all game and when the game got stretched he was left isolated against a breaking Liverpool and one on one with Salah and won every time. He needs a new contract and he needs one now.
Diogo Jota is the devil. He always scores against us and aaaargh I knew he was going to do it again. The game got frantic which played into the scouse hands but we almost caught them on the break numerous times and when Cho switched fields only the brilliance of Van Dyke stopped Elanga and (was it Aina?) being on goal. That would have wrapped it up. Murillo in the first half had it going but I wished he had played in Wood again rather than shot because I believe he would have scored again.
We were knackered and holding on at the end and I thought we were going to blow it but didn't. Magnificent from the boys. Interesting that Darwin Nunez wasn't used. Is there any truth to us maybe being interested? I think he would have been ace for us against them as he is as fast as lightning.
We will see in the next few weeks (clearly we are after Sesko but I would take the mad nutter Uruguayan.).
I was baying like a banchee at the game and probably disturbed all my clients as i was at work. Great night. Wish we had done the double but we rattled them and almost did it twice.
Proud of the boys.

To be fair Diaz ran into him - he stood like a brick wall…

Probably just caught up in the emotion in the stands. It was so funny watching Slot get more and more irate.
A bit gutted we conceded like we did - a wonder goal conceded may have been easier to take but can’t deny liverpools amount of chances that they deserved something from the game.
The saves from sels - 2 of them were world class. Murillo nailed Diaz all night and Aina stood firm against his toughest opponent of the season in Gakpo.
Gutted that we didn’t do better second half with some breakaway chances but VVD is world class still. Liverpool are probably the best in Europe so far this season so I’m proud as punch to say we won on aggregate and 4 points to 1 this year.
Feel with one or two careful signings we can get top 4. COYR
