It’s a great opportunity to see whether Anderson is capable of fulfilling that role, rather than being given a twenty minute cameo to prove it.

It's Taiwo time again.  Grind them down with his chaos.  Wood to clean up.    I would play Jota in the MGW role if needed.  JWP is suspended so Yates and Anderson and Jota. 

I would love our big Nigerian to get his season going against this lot.  I think it might be a good time to try.  Not two strikers are the same time though and I think it's also time for Elanga and CHO to get that run out.

I think to beat Palace you have to win the midfield battle and there’s no way that Wood shouldn’t be starting.

100%, not only do I think it's unlikely Taiwo gets back to the level he once was but also Wood is playing at that level now anyway. He doesn't have the same pace or strength but he's a better finisher and more consistent.

Forest entertain Crystal palace this Monday night so lets take a look what we can expect from them.

So far this season it is obvious that Crystal palace haven’t found their flow yet and sit in what many would call a false position, 3rd from bottom in the league. With no wins under their belt they will be keen to change that on Monday and will see the match as a great opportunity to do so. In pretty much every match palace have been in the game right to the end and it has only been their missing of big chances which has seen them take home less points than they deserved. This put against a Forest team that have lost more points from winning positions than any other team so far this season you can expect a close match.

Crystal Palace starting formation is a 1-4-3-3 formation. However how they actually line up changes for example they play 4-2-5 formation with the ball based on low build-up, with the goalkeeper playing between the center-backs and a box-midfield in the middle. This set up allows for a number advantage when dealing with a high press and allowing the fullbacks to become wingers early.

So the formation looks like this

In a low build the aim is for them is to hit the wings early and fast once the opposition midfielders become pulled into the high press.

As they progress further up the pitch due to the opposition not engaging in the high press the formation with ball moves again to a 1-3-2-4-1. The Box MC will either hold the central DC roll or move into the midfield space depending on the progress them make up the pitch later on and the attacking intent of team. Glasner’s game plan now moves from playing the balls into wide areas to controlling the center of the park. With four across the front line and one ST the tactic is to pull apart the backline while the rest create numerical advantages in the midfield areas. Short distances of passing channels and third man passing reduces the ability for team to start a medium zone press. Crystal palace themselves are now well set to preform a fast med press should the ball be turned over by the opposition.

When attacking Crystal Palace always try to find the attacking midfielders in the pockets. Their midfield numerical superiority usually means that at least one will be open. The aim is to find a Pass to feet of that attacking midfielder who will turn and drive at the defence rather than playing balls behind the defence.

Once in the final third palace create many chances, mainly by attacking the space between the opposition center-back and fullback. They primarily do this from the wide areas with underlaps from the attacking midfielders or sometimes the wide full-backs, however it is normally the advanced full back that will be looking to play that ball into the ever moving front three. Crystal palace are not a team that looks to get wide to cross thus underlaps are mostly used to the front three to take the ball inside to shoot.

When defending Crystal palace like to use a high backline with the box midfielder being the first to step out to engage any forward player with ball with the two DC in covering positions. This allows them to hold up play for the fullbacks to drop back and become a narrow 4-1-4-1 formation.

Crystal Palace are always extremely compact in their defensive shape. The compact shape makes it almost impossible for teams to find spaces between the Palace lines, making them very difficult to break down centrally.

However this med to high press and high back line they use comes at a cost. Everyone must be in the same line when defending with a high backline to maintain an effective offside trap, ensure cohesive coverage, and reduce gaps that attackers can exploit. This demands constant communication and coordination among the backline, it also requires defenders with good pace and positional awareness to deal with long balls and prevent opposing attackers from exploiting the space behind. With the loss of the defensive leader to Fulham at the start of the season Crystal palace have struggled to maintain control in these situations and are vulnerable to counter attacks and players who like to run with the ball.

I watched them in a somewhat tedious 0-0 draw with Man Utd, at Palace.

First half Palace’s full backs kept going forward, Man Utd got the ball and hit Garnacho who could run at a centre half and in on goal. MU really should have been winning by HT. Couldn’t believe they kept leaving themselves open like that.

Second half I was asleep, think it was a borefest, I guess Palace tightened up.

They’ll be away so might play the compact style, but any chance they come at us with advanced fullbacks is what Elanga and CHO would dream of. Value in sitting back and looking for the counter at times, if the crowd will have it. Ideally we take the lead and it plays nicely into our hands.
