Appeal For PSR Breach

There are several things we can do now to mitigate the threat of a second PSR breach this season if we stay up:

1. Sell Murillo (not my preferred option but looks most likely);
2. Sell other less vital players to a similar value (more preferable but difficult/unlikely);
Eg CHO £15m, Obrien £5m, Dennis £5m, 2x keepers £5-10m, Panzo, bowler (don't take values literally).
A pipe dream before the end of June, but this work should be being done now as ‘every penny helps’.
3. Consider sale and loan back - either a real one to buy more time or a dodgy ‘Olympiakos’ one.
4. Get that f*****g council to sell us the freehold; then sell it to EM for a profit;
5. Explore other asset sales that might be feasible (rather than players such as Murillo).
6. Manage our budget properly as we will have shed much of the chaff and got a core squad in place.

One final thought- if we don’t hit the PSR target then it may not matter as much this season because
1. Ipswich will go back down over a season; (as would Norwich if they make it);
2. Leicester face an immediate deduction;
3. Multiple other clubs will also be in the same boat so any deduction will likely be diluted.

I can see a June PSR market developing with clubs selling players to each other for inflated prices so they can recognise the full sale proceeds of any sales but incur perhaps only 20% of any purchases.

Perhaps a sub-cartel will develop!

Given the above, there is however a train of thought that it might just be worth taking the points hit and keeping Murillo and MGW….

7. Develop a consistent and sustainable policy for transfers going forward with one senior club official in overall control with responsibility for meeting budgeting targets.

It would be lunacy to sell CHO this summer.
He has 7 goals from 20 games.

He is building his fitness and confidence.

If he maintains that into next season and hits 10 goals and 10 assists, as a 23 yr old English player, he is worth 50m +

You only sell players in a player trading model when they are at the ceiling of their value

Also I believe Chelsea have a 50% sell on clause, so it would need to be for serious money to even consider going forward

Hudson-Odoi is a serious asset. I wonder if anyone at the club is tempted to say F- it to the deductions and risk breaching again and keeping our best players? The system is not working and selling Murillo, MGW and others would mean that we’d be a lot worse off.

It was just a suggestion as devil’s advocate based on selling anyone else just so we can keep Murillo and MGW.
To do that they must have a low cost and clear value growth- who else fits that profile now brennan and mangala have gone. Yates?!

I like CHO but now you are pushing me on it, yes I do think he has clear limitations- lacks pace and only has one foot. This is why he’s much more effective with Aina who provides the option to go outside.

Am I desperate to sell him? No. Your points stand.
Would I rather sell CHO for £20m profit if it meant we can keep Murillo? Damned right.

Anyway it’s not a rabbit hole I intended- it was just off the cuff examples.

Personally I like the suggestion to take a 2 point hit for a second offence (Everton precedent)- the more I think about it that’s a really good idea. Means we retain a better squad going forward and we might actually be better off than 10+ other teams (who have either had a higher first offence tariff or have sold their better players to comply). How ironic the system might actually work in our favour….

Didn’t that statement yesterday say don’t bother comparing your penalty with a similar other because it’s it’s up to the commission and they don’t have to show equality of penalty. They would end up giving all our points gained to Man City.

It’s no secret Everton should have been down last year, we’re just the one they wanted to make a proper example of in their stead. As I’ve said before out of the 6 teams promoted over the last two years the two flip flop teams are comfortable whilst the other 4 are in the 4 bottom places. If we even dared just take the hit next season we’d probably be hit hard. Everton whilst unraveling have been established long enough for it not to have mattered this season. We won’t get that luxury.

I do think that the league would try and make an example of us next year, don’t think we’d be as lucky as only 2 points. We’ve already poked them in the eye by standing up to them with PSR and the standards of officiating, so they’d be keen to heavily punish us. That said, it would be satisfying to take the point deductions and keep our best players just to stick 2 fingers up to them

I don't agree, Do what we have to do to stay within PSR. Don't want another points deduction, I would like to have a relatively comfortable season.
