Mark Clattenburg: Are Nottingham Forest looking for a 'competitive advantage' with ex-referee?
The Monday Night Club's Mark Chapman, Rory Smith and Micah Richards discuss retired referee Mark Clattenburg's role at Nottingham Forest and why it might be a "danger" for the officials' governing body PGMOL.
FFS. Would they be discussing in this way if their beloved Man City or Liverpool did it or would they just be telling everyone what a clever idea it was?
For what its worth Im not sure how clever an idea it is myself, its just the narrative that anything a big club does is fine, Forest do something its bad.
I think the fact that the media are even discussing it shows it's got some value. Notice the BBC had articles up straight away after the game, Clattenburg with the lead comments and then it was therefore discussed on MOTD. On Sky at the time they had no idea what had happened.

I would say yes, we are looking for a competitive advantage.
In other news, I can tell you the Pope's religion!!
NFFC, like every other club is in the results business, so it stands to reason any appointment should be viewed through the lens of giving us a competitive advantage, otherwise what is the point??
It is more like trying to alleviate a competitive disadvantage

To be fair though he couldn’t overrule Jones on the Boly sending off neither could VAR intervene.
This is what pisses me off though, not just VAR but what is the purpose of the 4th official and referees assistants if they don’t do anything to at least question the ref. Linesmen don’t even give offside anymore and let VAR to do the job for them.
Couldn’t the assistant that day have said you know what Rob Im pretty sure the foul was the other way around. If he didn’t see it then what was he doing?
The only time a 4th official has intervened was our rightly disallowed handball vs Birmingham a few years back. If that sort of thing was consistent you wouldn’t mind as much.
Was reading an article about VAR in Scotland, if anything seems its going down even worse than in England. Yet the PL persist with their argument that the majority of people are in favour by which I assume they mean tv companies.
The 4th official on Saturday was clearly pointing to where Hudson-Odoi was and was talking to the ref before he gave the ball to Liverpool. Tierney decided against listening to him, the Forest players, staff and fans, and just did what he wanted.

Im completely fed up with the narrative too Salv. So much so that this season is turning a little sour for me now.

Funnily enough he was also fourth official at Old Trafford when we played Man Utd.
Panic on the streets of Croydon, Derby, Sheffield, Leicestershire.

By my reckoning thats a minimum 8 points lost, arguably more as I think we would have otherwise won vs Bournemouth and maybe some others.
In the interest of balance and not looking one eyed, we should have lost vs Burnley with their goal incorrectly ruled out for handball so -1 there.

I may have rose coloured specs on but I thought the Burnley decision was the right one.

The Burnley decision is officially listed as a VAR error Pap, think we concede that one.
I don’t want us to become the moaning fanbase otherwise we are as bad as others, we have to accept there are other things that probably went in our favour too. For example I think there are 5 games now when we have faced 10 men, the fact we haven’t capitalised on those opportunities is on us.
However the game changing decisions that are going against us right now we can justifiably be angry about.

You can add the penalty on Omo we should have had against Liverpool
It’s as bad as the Yates non penalty
I don’t know why we’ve not made more of that rather than the undisputed free kick
0-0 and we have a penalty in the 98th minute against Liverpool?
I wonder why that’s never going to happen….

Didn't think it was a penalty personally, was pretty much the same thing that one of our players did at the other end a few minutes before.

Fair enough I suppose Salv.
