I think I’ll celebrate just as much as staying up last year if we don’t get a deduction

It doesn’t feel right whatsoever, I don’t know if anyone else has the view but it does feel like that don’t want us in the PL.

We pissed off many with our ambition last year - loads of clubs moaned about us inflating the market. Several clubs had wanted mangala and Awonyi for example…

Seems like we’ve fallen out of favour with some ex players at sky again, Neville questioning why we’ve appointed clattenburg, now this with carragher. It seems we should have just been plucky like Luton last season and not want to displace a mid table palace or wolves

Was 10m for Mangala and 17m for Awoniyi really inflated I don’t think so and now we’ve sold Mangala for 30m which has worked out well for us, Awoniyi would go for double we bought him for too. Yes we spent a good chunk of money but quite a lot of the deals we will end up making profit on.

He knows zero
It’s down to an independent commission not the EPL

I haven't read the story but there is an article on the back of the I with the headline "Forest will suffer points deduction over FFP breach"

No news news in there. Just that one unnamed chairman is "adamant" a points deduction is coming.

Not a great read but one "premier league chief executive" being "adamant" isn't a fore gone conclusion.. don't like the fact Kieran Maguire has retweeted it though

Not a bad article overall imo. Quite balanced.
Remember though, maguire knows no more than anyone else who can be arsed to sit down with a calculator and the accounts. He’s also bigging himself up about how he called it two weeks beforehand, which is probably why he’s retweeted it.

The facts are-
1. The precedent for not receiving points was set the preceding year by Everton themselves when they were given a year to correct the deficit and didn’t.
2. Backdating reasonably foreseeable losses into a previous accounting period is allowed under uk and international accounting standards (though in our case it would be £30m of the fee not the full £47m).
3. The PL were advised of the situation throughout (and under the operating conditions in the first point above).

Like the club, I too would therefore expect no points deductions.

However there are two unknowns- What influences within football are being exerted on the PL and also what their political motivation is to avoid external independent regulation and scrutiny as proposed by the government.

Those aspects are the real risk- corrupt organisations and individuals don’t usually want to relinquish control.

Just on this bit:

3. The PL were advised of the situation throughout

Everton used this excuse and in different circumstances so did Derby. Basically its nonsense because its not the responsibility of the PL to manage your accounts or to tell you to do things differently. All the PL needed to do is say “here are the rules”.
