This is the point you are making which I totally get. But ultimately the club needs to be stable first, developing the ground, training ground and pretty much everything else rests on it. So first of all get a squad that can comfortably finish mid table without a panic, then think about the cup win.
If the question was finish 10th or finish 17th and win the cup then of course you take the cup.
Obviously the question is hypothetical but worth noting so far we have had to play 4 games of football plus 2 periods of extra time and a penalty contest to beat a League 1 and a Championship team. Its nothing but a pipe dream this season ,we will get more and better chances if we build a Premier League side.
There's plenty of stable teams that tread water in the prem for years and don't win anything then come back down. Maybe you guys had it too good being alive for when we won trophies before but from personal experience my most enjoyable Forest games have been the recent playoffs and then probably the league one promotion game above anything we've done in the Prem so far.
Also, if we beat Man Utd (who we already beat) we could draw Coventry or Maidstone at home and then be facing that matchup for a trip to Wembley.

Ha yeah a surprising result from my perspective, one I suggest is in part due to me having not experienced any trophy wins to date in my lifetime compared to the majority.
Just don't blame me if we win the FA Cup and get relegated this year!

I’ve not seen us win anything other than play offs and League 1 promotion so yes I would like to win the FA Cup but staying up is better for us financially. And we would have to rebuild a massive part of the squad if we went down.

This is all very nostalgic but it's premier league all the way - don't get me wrong, a cup win would be nice as the only cup win I can remember is the epic Zenith data cup (still the proud holders of).
Ultimately, there is no guarantee that we could bounce back if relegated and I fear we would see a fire sale and another rebuild. An fa cup win would give us a short term sugar rush but our long term future is dependent on steady progression in the premier league. Ultimately, we only remember Wigan winning the FA Cup win because they were relegated and disappeared off the footballing map.
