We are second guessing the result of the independent commission. Interesting that we have have sympathy of Rob Dorsett who normally sticks the boot in. It can be argued that this season points gained with BJ in the team needs to be deducted. 3 points. Last season we benefitted but can’t be double jeopardy. I can see a 10 point deduction with some suspended for future breaches.
I’m also guessing that some of our previous losses have not been deducted such as promotion bonus etc. the premier league statement suggests we have admitted a breach and we will have a case for mitigation based on the sale of Johnson. It does open up a question of where the jonno money now lands and if applied over three years next year we would be quids in. There is room in the rules to do account for this last year and Brentford may have actually helped if they had an official bid for jonno in writing. That may actually put us in profit. What I am not sure is how it would affect 2023-24 figures. Hoping for a happy birthday come April 8th

Thats what ive been suspecting. The argument will be whilst we breached the June deadline, the spirit of the P&S is that we get the best price for the player not simply selling cheap for an arbitrary date. I think we'll get a fine at worst.

Not slagging but we are on pretty well every national news bulletin both Tv and Radio. Its not a good look for the club.

No some points - some suspended and a fine

For me the biggest question is simply, why didn't we just take the money in June and avoid this charge?
Did we think we could beat the system with this mitigation plan? Did we not realise until too late? Did the PL decide after the Everton sage to be less lenient (would be my guess) It seems pretty brazen to just take on the FFP rules and hope we can essentially get them changed after the fact.

If the rules are about profitability and sustainability then why should we have just accepted an offer about 30% lower than what we originally got for Johnson? Selling an asset for below market value isn't profitable. I imagine that'll be our pushback.

What the hell has modern football become?
So very sad. We should all be discussing Goalkeepers and Strikers we should be signing, not this load of waffle that none of us really understand. As a wee Scottish man once said, it is what it is and we are where we are.

No I get it makes sense, the rules suck and obviously the same transfer window should be the deadline, however on the 30th June, that was not the actual rules in place. My point was that we knew what the rules were. Why did we risk this scenario and not just reluctantly sell in June? Similar to what Everton did with Richarlison.

Because we wanted to write off the premier league promotion bonuses- this hasn’t been allowed

To be honest Im already fed up with keyboard lawyer warriors and accountants, apparent ITK's etc etc speculating as to what our fate will be. Basically, no one knows the facts of our case, what discussions have been had with the premier league nor the seriousness of our apparent indiscretion.
EM's no mug amd he's got a top KC on board. We need to back the club and stay as one. |
