The mystery of this season will always be why did we recruit a bunch of players to play 3 CBs and wingbacks, then change formation immediately after the window closed.

Even without the injuries to CHO and Taiwo, we were too short on players to play 433 or 4231. If we wanted to play 4231 we literally had CHO, Elanga and MGW and that's it, if one of them was out we had no other options to replace them. Same applies to 433 except it means MGW has to play out wide.

And to top it off, we seemed to have found a decent setup in the wingbacks formation that was producing competent, albeit not the most attacking, performances. This was against the top sides too away from home, just a polar opposite to last year. I just don't get it.

Agreed. I honestly thought that after Everton performance he would revert to a back 3 last night....seemed a perfect opportunity to go back to the more successful approach. 

Also, I actually think a back 3 can be a very attacking formation, we could evolve through that rather than go to a 4 at the back.

It was pretty attacking in the championship! Although part of that was that pretty much every team played it that year and also we had a marauding right wing back.

Supposedly Tavares is that way inclined......I think Neco is pretty good in that role too, if not quite to the level that Djed played in that season.

As we've said many times, squad setup for it, its just deemed that 4-3-3 is more attacking vs so called 'lesser' teams. Also dont think it help Murillo, who is, lets be honest, still very young.

the interesting thing would be whether is a 5-3-2 allowing MGW off a striker or the old 5-2-3 which still has the same MGW issue as last year

I actually think it would suit Murillo fantastically well. He can be a bit more floaty....he's excellent at cleaning up in a sort of sweeper role (much more mobile than he looks like he should be) and it would allow him to step out of defence with the ball, go on marauding runs without causing too much issue at the back and he can also play the quarter back role, pinging those amazing balls all over the pitch.

No manager is going to take the job now without being able to take a training session to look at the players before the game. You want to get off to the best possible start. That's not it. 

Who from within the club would you like to take charge on Saturday knowing a new man will probably start work on Monday?

I think he'll get Wolves for the reason you've said. I really hope he plays a back 3!!!

I feel for Steve. I know I have been slightly critical of him and I was probably leaning towards him being replaced but the way he has been hung out to dry by the players is disgusting. He doesn't deserve that and part of me now wants him to stay.

This is exactly how I feel but at the same time with the players already decided what they want to do we can’t afford to throw away more games
