I honestly cant see what the problem is with Smith.  Yes, I accept that he struggled with distribution, but he was expected, no he was required, by Warburton to try to play out from the back, even under a high press.  Karanka would give him more flexibility to kick the ball long if he needed to. It's what Pants has been doing of late.

Smith would also be bolstered by having Fox / Dawson / Figs in front of him too. That'll make a huge difference.

He's got a season's experience in him so he cant be considered to be rookie any more and his shot stopping was excellent I thought (Ipswich worldy save for example). He's definately worth another shot IMO.

A agree Paplane. I too think that Smith deserves another chance. 

It was painful to see when we tried to play out from the back under Warburton and the opposition found us out and started to press the team far into our half. The defense panicked and sent the ball back to Smith who then had to clear the ball while 2 or 3 opposition players were bearing down on him in full speed. Not easy to be accurate with the distribution in that scenario. I really felt for the guy.

Yes, we should really try to find a younger keeper with that potential.

Both Jordan Smith and Joe Worrell were bombed out by Karanka when he came in and tarred with the same brush as Mills and Mancienne. I think it was unfair on both when the problems in defence lay with the senior players. Great to see Joe doing well with Rangers, would like Smith to get another chance but think he will have to go on loan to prove himself.
We also have Liam Bossin in U23s who is now 22 himself and played for ROI U21s. Both him and Smith really need some first team experience somewhere, I think both have potential.

Pants did the time wasting which led to the 'extra minute' of game time vs Norwich. Poor judgement. Just 'distribute it' to the corner flag area for a throw in. He wasn't the only player that failed to 'clear it' but was culpable for a 'sack of potatoes' goal where he got down late.

Vs Wigan. 'Lost his head' for the corner and the resulting goal.

Keepers make mistakes.

However.

Let's look at the basics.

Distribution (i.e. see above re: Norwich) cost Forest the win. But time again, it invites pressure onto what is, let's face it, a make shift defence. There's no other way to see Forest's CHs. Fox and Yacob are not CHs. That's why Forest aren't top 6. And Pants isn't a top 6 keeper. That's why Forest aren't top 6. They don't have a LB in reserve. Not one by any definition. And it's cost Forest a couple of results also. If you're back line is imbalanced? You're doing well to be 7th! Let alone top 6. So, distribution? '3'. (I know Mr. Garibaldi Red has a particular 'concern' ;) over Pants 'pants' distribution. It slows down our counter attacking.

Claim it. My particular 'beef' is for a 6.7 guy. Walk out. Lift your hands up in the air. You're now 7ft plus and you can't catch a ball? That's fundamental. Catch it. Kick it. If you can't catch it. Something wrong. Shouldn't be out muscled or out reached. Maybe he needs some basketball practice instead? Claiming it? '2.'

Commanding your penalty area. You can't do that if you're rooted on your goal line. '1'. Very rollickings are all well and good but if you're keeper can't claim it by commanding his area? You'll just get a b*ll*cking from Fox telling you to 'come and deal with it.' I don't understand how a tall keeper can stay rooted. Yes. '1'.

Saving. Shot stopping. 6-7. (Not 67...) Some decent saves. But culpable for 'points, draws, wins lost' because of some glaring omissions from saves you'd expect better of from a 'former' Premier keeper. 6. Maybe 7.

I won't look at the other stats. Those are the ones that count to me. Can you catch it, kick it. That is command your area and then re-distribute it. That's two jobs in essence. And he's not convincing at either.

We have been linked with a loan move for Tom Heaton which obviously would be great but I doubt very much that he will want to leave. Has started the latest two Premier League games for Burnley (both won).

Mentioned on Sky Sports news, so who knows?
Seems unlikely though, I would agree.

Looking at this I'd certainly classify Brice Samba as a modern day goalkeeper.
Pretty decent across all those attributes.

I must be a little out of touch I was thinking the total opposite in that he's a bit of a throw back to the nut job keepers of the 80's I think he's absolutely brilliant as character and 100% he has the potential to be a premier league keeper not there yet but not far off

Grob's Segers Beasent there's a little bit of everything in there brilliant to watch and very entertaining.
