Just watched MOTD and seen sterling’s second, i can’t say whether Navas would have saved it if he used his left hand but it isn’t the first time while diving for a ball he’s used the opposite glove.

Do the top keepers in this league do this? Is it an angles thing?

I made the same observation a couple of months ago Fu. 

For me, leading with the opposite hand shortens the stretch by at least a good six inches. And as any woman will tell you, THAT makes a lot of difference.  :Laugh:

In my day, I used to play in goal. Granted I wasnt anywhere near the same standard as the likes of Navas, but when I used to dive for shots, I never twisted to use my stronger hand to get across, I always used to lead with the same side hand.

I agree, thought that was odd. He would have got a hand on it had he gone with his right hand. Perhaps positionally, he was caught out and was not prepared for shot far post.

Thinking about this the other day and i reckon someone like Harry Redknapp would be perfect. Someone with the nous to see things and talk to SC in games - a sounding board with experience. Not particularly a fan of HR but I think this kind of experience could be invaluable.

Most believe that we aren't as tactically astute as we could be and that some of the coaching doesn't seem to be working (see set piece goals conceded)

Kasper Schmeical explained this last week on Monday night football.

Stand up and put your left arm in the air, then put your right arm in the air and bring it across, your right hand is much higher (longer)

That’s why keepers are taught from a young age to go with the right hand when the shot is high to the left of them, gives them a much longer wing span

How would a change in assistant manager change how we defend set pieces?
