Just read that Chris Wood has returned from New Zealand having failed to play in their 2 games due to his injury.

I'm sure a flight to new Zealand and back in a single week will do wonders for his recovery. Who is making these decisions? Its crazy.

They aren't just allowed to withdraw players for no reason. I presume you need a scan or an agreement with the club. Fairly sure the countries are allowed to get their people to review the players themselves too.

If it was easy every team would stop their players going.

He was sent back to the uk before their second game apparently so must have just got there, been deemed injured and came straight back. Absolutely scandalous that their assessment of his injury couldn't have taken place in this country.

Some poor and naive decisions have been made during this break. Decisions that have not been to the benefit of Nottingham Forest.

Because those are the rules? The club didn't make them.

It's not the rule to send Kouyate to Senegal when he was not called up into the squad in the first place.

It's not the rule for an injured player like Chris Wood (he was substituted at Tottenham with a thigh injury and could not have played against Newcastle last week even if he was eligible) to join up with his country if he is currently injured.

The Kouyate thing obviously the club has agreed to his request. 

As I understand it the countries have to agree to release a player from internationals and have the right for their own medical teams to review themselves. So obviously NZ chose to action that right. I presume the injury is not that bad otherwise there'd be scans they could've just sent them. 

If he's injured, he's injured. A flight to and from NZ isn't going to make it any better or worse.

I'm sure you're right and the issue lies with NZ and Wood refusing to accept he was injured and choosing to fly. The club can't stop them if that's the case.

I think the other thing that is sometimes missed is that despite the fact the most fans don't care about internationals that much, the players do (or at least most of them). Particularly ones playing outside of Europe, it's a big deal for them. You see the passion during the major tournaments compared to club football. Perhaps it doesn't always come through as much in the European sides (particularly England sadly).
