We will start back with a more or less fully fit squad and against teams around us in the league.
Over to you Steve.
Do you think the big man will stick with Steve until the end of the season Sniff.
Irrespective of what happens against Wolves and Leeds
I think so yes.
I also think he will stay with him if we get relegated.
If we stay up though then it might be another matter.
Wait you think he might change if we stayed up? That would be pretty bizarre wouldn't it?

Yes I think EM might want better, why not?
We should always look to better ourselves if we can shouldn't we?

I'm unconvinced we can do better firstly, he's got the worst squad in the league to 15th after previously carrying a team that was bottom, to promotion. He's universally loved and has got the atmosphere and fan base the most united I've known it. He's highly rated outside the club and been linked to most other jobs in the bottom half and even above in some cases. Who are we possibly getting that's better than that?
And who would want the job when you know that you can be replaced despite being a success? If we replaced Cooper after staying up we'd be a laughing stock.
If any other team acted in that way what would you think of them?

Yep, id say he's unsackable if he keeps us up.

Would not sack him if he took us down. I don't think there is a better manager to get us back up and hopefully the experience all round will pay off long term.
I guess the question is - what are the Financial implications of relegation. I would assume we would sell players like brennan but could we hold on to Yates, gibbs white? Or would we need to sell.
And would cooper want to stay if that was the case.

I reckon we'd try to gamble for a year and retain as many players as possible. The foreign players like Felipe, Lodi and Aurier would probably leave but I bet there'd be more than a few like Lingard and Kouate who'd be prepared to stay with Cooper down there for a year at least.

Yes from scratch because we only had a handful of players close to Premier league level. Also, Cooper is quite clearly only a part of the group that makes signings. There is no way you could convince me he wanted Dennis (our probably biggest transfer failing so far).
Either way, the point is that buying 20 new players at once was always going to be a challenge. If you're a player good enough to play mid table in the Premier league, why would you choose Forest over other teams? Particularly in the summer we clearly struggled on signing those players. Lingard aside of course sadly! It was always going to be a challenge regardless of the manager and whoever was in charge of transfers.
You either sign players that are slightly past it and unwanted elsewhere or players that have not yet reached the level so other teams aren't willing to invest. I do think we did some excellent business despite all this. Henderson, MGW and Lingard were excellent acquisitions at the time in terms of persuading them to join (suspect Cooper was key for at least one of those).
Otherwise the majority of signings were players needed to step up or players that weren't making their current teams and weren't wanted elsewhere. Going to be a bit rag tag in that scenario.

You seem determined that Cooper is to blame for our current plight Sniffer? If you dont mind me reminding you were of a similar opinion back in September and if not actually saying Cooper Out I think its fair to say you were firmly in the “we can do better” camp.
No other possibilities?
Giraldi for example?
Or maybe we do have a weak squad?
I do get where you are going on the other thread about players not being improved and that we seem currently to be going backwards. That bit I have no answer to.
I wonder if there is a lack of PL experience on the coaching staff too.
Still think the sheer quantity and turnover of new squad members is an issue. Last years success was very much built on a small core playing squad. Those players definitely improved. As have MGW, Johnson Yates and I would say Taiwo and Lodi too. Others are clearly struggling to adapt.
Although I thought Wood and Shelvey were sound at the time I have to say with hindsight I think they are both poor buys and have significantly disrupted the squad. Were they Cooper’s choice? No idea but if they were I dont think he did his homework properly.
Anyhow rewind a few weeks everyone was lauding Cooper. On MOTD they actually mentioned him as potential future England manager. Same old problem in football no manager is more than 6 losing games away from the sack.

Wood shouldn't have dispruted the squad. He should have been phased in like any other new player is to a squad. Cooper chose to stick him in for the full 90 right from the off including against Bournemouth when he hadn't even trained with the squad. Thats mental.

Cooper keeps us up he will be lauded again as a football genius. There is no doubt our squad is one of if not the weakest in the league and a lot of money has been wasted on players who are not good enough. I suspect with all that money spent that if we go down it is going to have very serious financial consequences for the club. It will be disastrous.

We'll just sell Jonno for a tidy amount. Hiw much was Gordon sold for?
