Is it just me or did Wood play alright yesterday. I thought he held the ball up and won some decent headers. Really nice lay off For MGW in the first goal. He did not great service into the box. To score he needs that. We started really poorly yesterday but were the better side in the second half. Our midfield three looked slow and for me Colback was the best of them. The balance wasn’t right in those positions but I am not sure Cooper has too many options at the minute. O’Brien not being in the 25 is a big mistake. Danilo doesn’t look ready.

Thing is and the question is why does Cooper keep trying to accommodate Wood in his starting eleven?

He did the same with Johnson early on. I couldnt see what BJ was bringing/ doing but Cooper stuck with him game in game out. Different circumstances around Wood but it seems Cooper's decided he's a permanent fixture too.
If you were trying to be cynical you'd worry it's because he's trying to justify the 16m spent on him. Newcastle fans did seem to rate him so I'd suggest it's more us not using him right.
I agree Wassy, I like Wood but does he suit the way we were playing or the way we want to play, I am not convinced but Steve seems determined to try and make it work.

It does feel like if we're playing Wood we need to only play 2 CMs to allow MGW to play in the centre still. That seems to be the issue, it did seem like with Taiwo playing LF we had unlocked MGW more.
That said that would likely mean starting Dennis and benching Freuler (for Yates) or Shelvey. Can't see it vs Spurs but perhaps vs Newcastle.
I'm happy with 433 personally however I did think switching it up for this game might've worked just to surprise Dyche as he's watched so many of our games. It's not like their central midfield is exactly dominant either.

I remember we played 2 or 3 games without a recognised Striker. For example against Leicester we had a front 3 or a front 1-2 or 2-1 whatever you want to call it anyway you know what I mean. The 3 furthest forward lets say were Scarpa - Johnson- MGW and I thought it worked really well. Then we signed Wood which is fair enough because he has nothing to prove in the PL but Cooper seems determined to accommodate him in our starting eleven and it does appear to be having an effect on the way we are playing in a negative way.

I'd try something new, which we don't do, play 3 up top, Johnson as a 9/false 9, Dennis on the right, Scarpa on the left, mgw in the 10 slot where he is effective more, Yates and johnjo/remo in the 2.
4.3.3. at home, attack to win
Then play the defensive away, 4 5 1 away
Look forward to the glad your not manager posts haha.. but we set up the same every game, with the same weak players.. teams know how to hit us.. need to change it up to keep teams guessing
