One REALISTIC Big Signing In January

The player you sign has to fit the team and how they play.

Many big name players fail when they move to another club simply as the other club is not set up in a way that suits them. And if you did, then other players already there would suffer.

So what we need are signings which compliment what we have.

Personally if I was looking for one upgrade signing for the second half of this season I would get Albert Adomah from Villa (who are not using him and he in unsettled) and then have Adomah and Lolley on the wings.

Agree TPL, we have invested heavily in forward players but the defence largely consists of free transfers and those on modest fees which gets you average players like Hefele and Pantillimon. We still look far too vulnerable at the back and its here I would like to see money spent.

Totally agree, we need cover at the back urgently.

I see that Sniffer mentioned Holgate a few days ago in another thread.

He would be a quality addition to our backline.

In answer to the question though on this thread I would also choose Heaton.

Bullseye.  Phase two of the building must include some rounding out of the back line with a GK who can catch and distribute a ball and a 'dominant' CH...and a LB that can push and exceed Robinson.

That's 3 players.

I understand why the midfield god the overhaul.

Next must be the backline.

...but we still need a winger who can unsettle the opposition, an ACM (somebody who can really turn the screw and change a game and unlock a stout Preston rear guard action) and a striker on top of that who has pace and power to rattle a back line.  I think I said pace twice there?  I think 'we' still need a bit more of that as the build up play can seem 'not quick enough' to unsettle the opposition or disrupt a back line enough.

5-6 more players and I'd say that Forest would have enough to take the top 2 on.  

Forest are creaking when pushed because a 35 year old Dawson couldn't do a 3 game week indefinitely.  That was coming and something went 'ping.'  That's what happens when you push too hard too often.

They just don't quite have the depth to take on the top 2 and even sustain the top 6 by the looks of it.

More depth required.  But quality.

Reading through the thread, Tom Heaton appears to be the most popular signing that we would choose to make.
