Wassy who were you expecting us to sign?

Salah, Ronaldo, Saka, Kante, Pickford, Stones?

You have said yourself that we signed average player's for the PL, so on that bases we should be in an average position in the league which on average is half way. But we are not in an average position we are rock bottom.

We have a decent enough squad and I remain convinced that we have made some good signings. Last season people were saying that if we don't go up then Worrall, Yates, Mckenna and Johnson will all leave for the PL. Add to that Henderson an England International, Aurier who is proven at PL level, Lodi a Brazilian International, Freuler who ripped up Serie A last season, Lingard (lets be honest outside of the big 6 who wouldn't have taken him?), Awoniyi 19 goals in one of the toughest leagues in Europe last season. I could go on but I won't.

So what has gone wrong? I am sorry but this group of player's are more than good enough to be pushing mid table but for some reason it ain't happening is it.

I'm not in anyway criticising the club, I liked our business at the time. This is an acknowledgement that the odds were/still are stacked against us. Building a new squad from scratch is challenging, even ignoring the difficulty in gelling them/working out the best team. You're making my point for me, we couldn't sign these top players, the players that were available to us were either young and upcoming players from abroad or the championship or veterans that weren't quite good enough for teams higher up. I think we took some decent swings at it but it hasn't worked so far.

These are our "best" players, all our rivals have equal or better players. That's our top players, what about the weaker half of our team? The issue is simply that the other teams around us have built better teams over time and have a couple of elite assets that we don't have at this level. Every team has at least 2-3 around us, we have no-one right now.

Henderson - Josa Sa, Meglier, Martinez
Aurier - Semedo, Castagne, Cash
Freuler - Neves, JWP, Tielemans, Douglas Luiz, Dendoncker, Lerma
Lingard/MGW/Brennan - Podence, Nunes, Buendia, Watkins, Coutinho, Billing, Maddison, Barnes
Taiwo - Vardy, Daka, Iheancho, Costa, Ings, Solanke, Moore, Bamford

For the record I think 9 points at this point is an excellent effort in these circumstances and about where I'd expect to be. Any better than 20th would be an overachievement, I certainly don't see this as a failure of a season. We're only 3 points off 17th with two winnable home games coming up.

I agree Wassy. You only have to look at our back four. Bournmouth didn’t want Cook last season in the championship. McKenna and Worrall did great last season but they can’t be considered tried and tested at this level. Tofollo the same. Aurier didn’t have a club. How many premier league teams would these play regularly in. The squad isn’t as good as some people making out.

If it all ends badly for Cooper and he is shown the door, then I would hope that Dyche is the first man that is given a call, I honestly think that he could get this lot of underachieving shite into a team of fighters, a team that on paper should be higher up the league and not a team of "I only came because they offered a wage that no other offered" , I really hope that Cooper can get this team of player's into a team that will fight for the cause and a team of player's that want to stay in this league, but if the worst happens, and Cooper is sacked, then Dyche should be the first man given the call.

If Cooper was to go, I'd probably imagine a forgien coach would come in? Someone who will just play the players given and not someone who will be stubborn because we didn't sign one of his.. nothing against cooper but that period of playing 3 cams because he didn't want taiwo/Dennis was mind blowing,

Quite like us to go for Dominco Todesico or jess Thorup, thorups team are beautiful to watch, like we were last season, but with a more solid 4 at the back, likes ball controlling defenders, not the hoof and hope shit were doing atm

You can't just magic players from thin air, we came into this season easily the worst team, we bought some decent players to catch up but we're still not as good as the other teams around us. The odds were stacked against us and still are. It's hard to sign a new team when top players don't want to sign for you and a new manager will experience the same issue.

I don't disagree that there are things Cooper could've done better this year in hindsight (hindsight being the magic word) Had we have gone to this tactic earlier we'd likely have more points. I think perhaps they/he should've looked more at previous examples of mass levels of recruitment to gauge the best way to get results while the team was still gelling.

I just can't not respond to " lot of underachieving shite" as if we for some reason should be midtable because we spent a few £££. It's a frustrating attitude, ignores that most of our rivals have had years of spending to get to where they are, plus assumes that you can just automatically buy the league position. I like the clubs business and still do for the most part (lack of 2nd striker was odd, Dennis was a pointless signing) however had we have focussed on younger/top champ level players like LOB would that have kept expectations down and allowed us to build without this pressure that it has created?

Wassy you can dress it up however you want but we ARE underachieving.
Why was Dennis a pointless signing? He scored 10 goals in the PL last season.
Just a thought but perhaps it's our coach who is underachieving, he needs to get more out of this group of player's.
I am not really a fan of Dyche but I will have a bet with anyone that if he becomes our next manager he would get more out of these player's than what Cooper has so far managed.

Having said that I am desperate for us to win tomorrow and against Palace so Cooper will keep his job at least for now.
