The team needs a physical presence and currently Awoniyi is our only real option.
Under the circumstances, there’s no shame in contributing from the bench or being part of an attacking rotation with a proven England international and the club’s record signing.

I'm not sure i could bring myself to say it in such a harsh way about Brennan that folk have been saying on here, I think he's earned more respect than that and I still believe he is our best finisher.

However, I think we do have more balance with awoniyi up front (stuck record) and if coops thinks MGW and Lingard are the 2 to play off him then that's his call. I feel like brennan could step into their roles too and I'm sure we'll see it occasionally.

I know it's only garth crooks but it's nice to see a couple of our players in his team of the week! Hendo and awoniyi! Good stuff.

Pretty much same opinion, not really sure MGW or Lingard have offered anymore than Brennan (particularly Lingard). However, I'm happy to back Cooper if he thinks those two are the best options too. Obviously not going to change anything after last week anyway. I definitely see the value in getting Lingard out there, we know the level he is capable of from his previous roles if he can recreate that then it would really improve us. Brennan will have his time, hopefully a big World Cup showing will get him going again.

Come on, lets not beat the lad up. He needed dropping, I think we all agree on that but his season is far from finished. 

It's ironic really. I've been calling for him to be taken out for quite a few weeks now and been very critical of his performances impact this season but I thought he had his best game of the season against Brighton and on that basis I would've left him in on Saturday. I suppose it's good man management by Cooper. Don't kick the lad in the balls by dropping him after a poor few games. Take him out after a bit of a high.

I watched a re-run of the game last night. Got to say when you see it on tv our defending from set pieces is a bit rubbish. They were saying we play a mix of zonal and man marking and we were defending free kicks with a really high line which was giving the attackers the opportunity to make runs into the space left. It didn't look good when analysed in the cold light of day. And we weren't being very disciplined at keeping our defensive line. If one defender drops in early (Aurier and McKenna I noted both tended to be guilty of doing this) then the whole line collapses and the runner is left free. We've got to sort that out pronto as it's going to cost us. Liverpool were unable to take advantage but other teams will. They'll be looking at it and want to benefit.

Also, re the Van Dyke header at the end that Hendo brilliantly saved, does anyone else think that had he scored we might have had a var shout to get it chalked off? Alisson had two arms around Yates who's job it is to defend the space Van Dyke runs into. That's why Van Dyke is there unchallenged 3 yards off the goal line. Alisson was almost bear hugging him. Actually, thinking about it, forget that. We would never win a var decision against Liverpool.
