I think he’ll be gone by the time the World Cup starts. Giving him a new contract temporarily boosted belief in the team, but we look out of our depth currently. EM won’t want to write off the season this early, so I think he’ll pull the trigger sooner rather than later.

Agreed Ryan, I have seen one or two raise the white flag on here but that is definitely not in the EM songbook.

Am I missing something here did cooper take that lousy penalty no he didn’t
If we had got the draw would we even be having this chat things are improving and cooper is the right man

EM gave Cooper a new contract because the "fanbase" was screaming for it - according to DT this was "fan power" at its best.

So its all down to that fan power now..........they have to accept "It is what it is" as Johnson and Cook start every game we play S**t and lose.


We should be playing 4-4-2.........but he wants Johnson playing every game.........so we lose the midfield every game.

Johnson and trying to play him every game is our weakness..........and we have to accept that is Coopers weakness as well.

This is the PL....not the Championship and Johnson is not good enough for the PL.

I love Jonno and there is very little doubt with his ability he is going to be a top top Premiership player. I agree though that after a pretty much constant upward trajectory he is in a difficult patch  which ultimately he will learn more from. Every young player goes through it. 

I agree the lad needs a rest too. Coming off the bench to rebuild his confidence and become the player most people in the game believe he can be.

Serious question though. What has Cook done wrong last 3 games? I've been to them all and watched 2 of the games back on Sky and he has been our best defender. His reading of the game has got us out of a number of difficult situations. 

The goals we've conceded lately have had very little to do with the lack of pace at the back. Wolves had a tonne of pace which is not what hurt us. Same with Villa  who kept trying to get through us centrally but couldn't.

I'm all for upgrades where we can get them. If Niakhate is as good as people think then great.(personally thought he looked like he chased the ball like an u11 in newcastle game and 2nd best in many physical battles with Antonio in next game- but has all tools to be decent, but I digress).  D

Don't be surprised if Cook is seen as his ideal partner due to aforementioned reading of game. 

Not for one minute suggesting Cook is long-term answer. But I'd say he's made less serious errors than our other regular CBs. 

Ultimately though  we have to look after the ball far better when we get it, otherwise every game will continue to feel like The Alamo regardless of who tries to keep back door shut.

I personally think it’s naive to stick with the “Cooper is the best man to get us promoted if we go down” narrative. The season isn’t over, but if we carry on playing football this way, we’ll be as good as down by the January transfer window. Marinakis has invested a fortune in the squad with the intent of creating a Premier League platform to build upon in future. Forget about rebuilding next year, this is our best chance of doing that. Lots of clubs go down and assume they’ll bounce back, but it doesn’t always happen. We need a manager who can get us 17th place. That has to be the minimum for me. I like Cooper, but I’m not prepared to watch us go down without a fight.

It's fair to say we must be the one set of supporters who know better than most not to assume we will bounce back. Our last bounce took 23 years!!

That said, I just don't see any other manager bring able to do more than Cooper. 

Slow progress made, we've stopped shipping 4 goals a game average and CB partnership looks fairly solid.
Also huge goal costing individual errors been missing last 2 games, (certainly don't class VAR handball or Youngs wonder strike as serious individual errors). Also competing better in midfield.

Next: Look after ball better and maybe dominate midfield plus score a few!!

Baby steps I know, but Cooper knows what he's doing and also getting to know all his players. 

Not blind faith, just trying to step back and look at things objectively. 5 points is quite clearly not good enough, but green shoots of recovery have been shown. Chopping and changing of manager (and players now) will only ensure our main objective will be 12 points.

Agreed mate.. qpr, sunderland, Huddersfield and many more thought the same.. go down and come back up, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't..  its not worth the risk
