Really need to do these over! I was all for fielding a weakened team against Leicester to focus on the league but having watched us dismantle them so brilliantly, I completely take that back......we just must take the confidence, the energy and way of playing and do the same every match until the end of the season! No more Cardiff performances please!!!

No more Cardiff performances please!!! I agree, I was resolved to us taking the steady approach and fielding a weakened side. But I'm now so glad we didn't, and I'm glad that Leicester didn't either. The trouble is I reckon that Cardiff result was bourne out of the big few games that the players had before it. Wednesday is a massive test now. Can we keep the level of performance? We struggled for a large part of the Barnsley game a few days after we beat the sheep but Cooper will be able to use flatness of that game as a way of motivating the players to lift themselves again. We could really do with a win up there but is that a bit greedy? Probably.

If we're going for top 2 then we'd realistically have to win a game like this, need to make it a 6 pointer in our favour due to the current points deficit.
On paper our first 11 feels like it's good enough to be a top 2 side but maybe we had too many points to make up from those first two months.

Realistically top two is out of our reach unless we go on a 7 or 8 game winning streak. I cant really see that happing to be honest. We're 10 points behind with 17 games to play. Even if Blackburn run out of steam, I can see Bournemouth getting some form back and getting 2nd spot. We just need 6th place, and there's still plenty of competition for that.

We really need to win this one.
Wins for Luton, Stoke and Coventry/Blackpool on Tuesday will really put the pressure on the top six. Some great games on Wednesday. Blackburn (2nd) v Us (8th) Preston (11th) v Huddersfield (5th) Sheffield United (10th) v West Brom (6th) QPR (4th) v Boro (7th)

its almost a 'must win' game I think.
certainly its a 'dont lose' game.

Definitely dont lose. Would 100% take a draw right now.

I agree I don't believe we have much chance of top two without some help from above, however that help would partly come from winning games like this. I'm not saying it's likely we'd catch those 4 teams but at the same time it's still attainable right now just about. You're right though if Bournemouth go on a run then it's not possible. Just difficult not to consider it when we have put together such a strong first eleven. Better than the Billy D team that crushed WBA away in what is widely considered or best modern performance?

We just crushed Leicester. If we can keep those players fit. Get Mighten back. And work really hard on getting Grabban back. Replicate that kind of performance levels and we can beat Blackburn. They're not invincible. QPR aren't that far from the top 2. We aren't 'that far' from QPR. (Especially if we hadn't lost that Cardiff game.) QPR. Luton. Others. Show what several wins can do in this league. SA. |
