If we have a manager that tries to play ball, Joao shows his quality. But at the end of the season he has 12 months left on his deal and we risk that someone takes him on the cheap.
Also his transfer fee cost is around 2.6M a year. The 13M split over the 5 years of his contract. So his value is currently around 5.2M remaining on our books with 2 years to go.
A 2 year extension gives 4 years remaining on the deal. So the amortization would drop to 5.2M / 4 = 1.3M a year. We’d save ourselves 1.3M for the next 2 years, spreading it out over a longer period.
And what’s the downside, extended wage commitments? Not much compared to Arter and co. It’s good risk / reward. But we do need to actually try to play football with him.

There is logic in that, the problem I suspect is that Joao may not want to be here another year let alone extending to make it another 4.

I really want him to get a chance in pre-season. I don't believe however that he will be able to convince CH to include him in his "focus" squad. I would love to be proven wrong. He could still succeed. Fingers crossed.

We now have a manager who plays football the right way and Carvalho still can't get on the pitch.
No more excuses surely it's game over for him at the CG.

I sincerely hope the club have learned their lesson here...................never trust an agent or the words that spill out of their mouths!!!

Much more to this transfer than meets the eye Tricky but I can't say more I'm afraid.

Its all over
The last we saw of our record signing was him half heartedly warming up vs Barnsley knowing he was never going to come on.
Who on earth are we going to spend hours arguing about now he’s gone?

Best for all parties. Best of luck to him but he wont be missed unfortunately. I had high hopes that Cooper may take a shine to him and his caareer make tale off again but no, another manager didnt think he was up to it.
