Just because we spent big this season it doesn’t automatically make us a team that should be challenging. Short term investment route takes more than 20-30m. Our low base also has to be taken into account. Looking at other teams around the top then there is a real mix of longer term projects (sheff Utd), big spenders over a couple of years (Middlesbrough) - ex prem (wba) and of course derby (good quality loans to an already expensively assembled squad). It took wolves 2 seasons of very large investment- we are out performing them from their first season of mega signings. I haven’t even included Stoke and Villa who with their squads should be shoe ins for top 6.
If we are challenging for play offs this year then we should all be happy. Trouble is we get greedy and see that with that extra bit of luck...quality...tactical nousee then we’d already have 6-9 extra points from winning positions we have had and sitting pretty at the top of the table. We are in the middle of a really tough run of fixtures too.
Tuesday was a real let down though. A big chance to keep the squad happy with extra games and also have a chance To keep the feel good factor. A real let down.
It will be all forgiven if we win our next 2, though I can see 2 defeats or 2 draws at best.
Truth.

From what I've seen of their matches so far they put a massive amount of effort and energy into regaining possession high up the pitch. Can they sustain that through the entire campaign?
Ozzy - great post. Pretty much agree with all of that.
Was only thinking that very same thing myself last night. I also thought that they have a lot of youngsters in their side too who could well fall away when the pressure of the season builds and fatigue sets in. Look at how Dowell faded for us last season. At the beginning of his loan he was a world beater, but he faded badly.
I'd like to think the depth of our squad will begin to pay dividends soon. Players of all clubs are now begining to become affected by suspensions and injuries will become a factor as the season goes on. We have decent cover to overcome these problems. Do the other clubs?
Didnt work on Tuesday...we played ten fresh players and Burton played their third game in 10 days with the same players...performance was there to see...

I really hope we can secure at least 4 points from these two home games for Karanka's sake. Deep down I like him and I also think that he will get us promoted if we stick with him. The problem is, does our owner have the patience to wait?

I don’t think karanka gets sacked with two losses personally but it doesn’t matter as that’s not going to happen. Let’s pretend burton didn’t happen and we just lost to Newcastle and we’re coming off the back of a solid away performance v Leeds and big win at Bolton.
Everyone will be happy and karanka will be safe. Personally I like him, he does make some questionable decisions but everyone is asking a lot and I think he’s doing well in that respect

“Lampard is a genius. His sides are so good to watch. Derby are flying at the minute”
Last 11 games:
LDWDLDDWWDL - 3 wins 5 draws 3 losses (14 points)
“Karanka on borrowed time, should be sacked”
Last 11 games
DWWWDDWLWDL - 5 wins 4 draws 2 defeats. (19 points)
That stat is wrong. Lampard has had 2 points more than karanka.

We were all concerned after Burton, until we are more consistent I will still be concerned. We're are all Forest fans PSS no one has to like the manager, we do have to support the club.
Managers and players will come and go, the club will always be here.
We have had so many false dawns and false promises over the last decade, however even I (who has become just a little cynical) am now starting to believe that this manager may just be the right fit for us.
We needed someone who was ruthless enough to cull the deadwood, his teams now show the aggression we have been sorely missing. We have some cracking players, signed under his watch and whilst some of the performances have been underwhelming I think we can all agree we have seen glimpses of what I hope is to come.
I for one are going to stop panicking, chill out and enjoy the ride!

There is a difference between disliking the manager and wanting us to lose so he loses his job.

Heat of the moment? Must admit I was thoroughly naffed off with that result, still makes me angry to think about it.
On the positive side we are now nearer to knowing who our best 11 is and I will stop bleating about Bridcutt not playing.

Like allot of what you said above REDgirl, almost my thoughts ... its my love for Forest that make me look that I am negative, in reality, I just want us to improve and not accept mediocrity. I have the tendency not to make any player, any manager my idol ... most of them (in the last 20 years) let us down... I never had the name of a player on my replica shirt, cause players dont have loyalties, they go where the money is ... on the other hand we as fans, we stick with the club/team, no matter what ...being in the Premiership and also in L1.
I am convinced that how the Championship is shaping up this year, we just need some tweaking, and we will get promoted...to a certain extent the Championship this season is there for the taking...I am not meaning that it is easy, just saying that there are so many teams of equal quality (so allot of points dropped between them), that a small upgrade is what is needed, to lift us above the pack...
