I thought we would lose to forest, even without our injuries. I wish they'd held on to Houghton till after we played them! Of the next 3 games I thought this would be the toughest one given forest's up turn in form.

We're doing okay, still 7 points off the bottom 3 and 5 points off the playoffs - I still think mid table would be an incredible result for us this season, given how much everyone wrote us off before a ball had been kicked, and staying out of the bottom 3 would still be amazing!!

I hope we can get something off Reading at least and maybe punt for the win. TJJ needs to get the f**k out of whole squad nevermind the first 11! And I'm annoyed we didn't see Dale, hoping he can at least come off the bench in midweek, ready for him to terrorise the Nobbers on Saturday.

It wasn't that bad, away at the form side I would have been pleased with a point. There was plenty of effort but the final pass and a bit of guile were missing.
Slightly disappointing but wouldn't describe it as abject.

I only managed to get the game on to watch 1 minute before we scored, we bossed that second half possession wise and had a nailed on pen on TJJ waved away by the ref(1-1) at the time, saying he took the ball, the guy didn’t touch the ball.
Fine margins decide most games at this level, could quite easily have got 3 points but came away with none, that’s football!

Not the best performance by a long way. But we still had our moments. gabriel had a bit of a mare first half, but found his feet second half. thougrht Madine and Jerry did Ok without setting the world on fire. Tjj, theres a very good player in there might be a bit lightweight though. Bowler was at his both frustrating and brilliant best quite often in the same move.

Thought Stewart was a bit out of the game never really go going, we wer much better when King kenny arrived, Wintle had a decent game up till the last 15 minutes when he decided to play suicide football, which seemed to spread across the whole back line for a period. Keogh was left standing so many times, Marv was basically doing the job of two again, and he didnt have his best game in tangerine.

forget about it, im sure critch will look at what the problems are and we go again on Tuesday.

I watched the classic forest game the other night and for me to see that team taking chances with the ball, being positive is what is missing a lot in this team.

Too safe a lot of the time.

Sometimes you have to try, try the through ball etc.

Just back, we didn’t deserve anything.

They pressed us well, but we invited all sort of trouble playing the ball around at the back. We had Madine in the team and we failed to use him, to pin them back. We must have wasted 20 minutes of the game passing in our own half.

Jerry excellent all round, Gabriel had a good game, arguable he was slightly too far off his man for the goal, but then the 2 centre backs didn’t prevent the goal. Gabriel did prevent 2 goals with great covering tackles 2nd half.

Bowler, poor again, zero end product. The cross for the goal was straight into the keepers hands, only for the defender to do us a favour. The lad flatters to deceive, and Mitchell is just miles ahead.

On the other side, TJJ just nothing. A boy against men. He cost us the 2nd goal by trotting to the ball in the corner - their lad was 10m behind him and should never have got that ball up the pitch, allowing them to break.

Get Hubby in for Garbutt, who really isn’t delivering much going forward and defensively he gets ripped.

Big away following and a toothless performance. They are not a great team, good going forward, but we just didn’t test them at the back.

The positive, well we are disappointed, because we are better than that.

From all the away days, that was by far the best atmosphere I have experienced in the EFL, credit to Nottingham Forrest, the place was bouncing. Blackpool loud & proud as always

I must say I was blown away from #nffc home support today! I’ve ever seen a ground rocking like that in all my years following the tangerines. Hopefully the same for the reverse fixture, just obviously not the result!

The loudest away fans we have had here for some time but they brought some proper bell ends with them too, having a right go at us in the BC car park after the game and starting a fight on the exit near lady bay bridge.

Remain very optimistic after watching that. There is no way it was perfect, struggled in the first half and could not capitalise on the second half possession. Forest though are a very decent side and we are clearly competing well against established championship sides. It was a clear penalty, small margins, if that had been given and converted then that should have been another point. We will play better than this and and also have players returning from injury. Grimshaw looks a very decent keeper.

I have watched Quest now. The handball was unclear, the tackle on TJJ looked a penalty to me but perhaps not in the "nailed on" category.
As for your blog I'm not in full agreement with you on Bowler, I think you've been a little bit too generous.
I think on Wednesday we might see Demi and Keshi as our 2 wide players with Dale and Bowler as impact subs if we need them.
Critch will have a tough choice between Sterling & Gabriel and King Kenny will probably replace Stewart.


Key players absent, away to an in form team with new manager bounce, 12 games into a season in a higher league than last. Yet we still competed well and it could've gone either way even though Forest deserved it if we're honest. No complaints from me, the team are doing very well on the whole. You only have to look at where the teams that finished 1st and 2nd in league one last season are to know how big a step up this is.

Slept on it and watched the ‘highlights..

Grimshaw didn’t do a thing wrong. Dealt with some silly back passes quite well. Lacks the long distribution of Maxwell and the leadership qualities too but he’s young and going to improve.

Gabriel had a good game. Was kept very busy by Lowe in the first half and arguably should have been a little closer to his man for their first goal but it was a hell of a pass, relatively flat and powerful, and the Forest player controlled it beautifully with his first touch. Our CB’s should have been able to track the Forest man who finished it too. But it was a great goal by them and most teams concede it at whatever level. Gabriel was impressive in the second half albeit maybe lacking a natural rapport with Bowler as they got under each other’s feet a few times.

Keogh and Epiketa did pretty well dealing with Grabban. Could have done more to prevent the first goal, lucky not to be caught out flat footed a couple of times (but Gabriel saved them) and they did lose the plot in the last 15 minutes with some poor passing. Would have liked to see them carry the ball further forward when we’re chasing the game. I think with Maxwell barking orders they’re a better unit.

Garbutt not able to offer much going forward but did well against one of the leagues biggest talents. Was left exposed and open time and time again by TJJ but still managed to get forward to put some good crosses in. Looks much better and more confident getting forward when playing with Keshi as Keshi offers more and works harder defensively than TJJ. Also bare in mind Garbutt has to cover Keoghs lack of pace. Garbutts contribution seems to go unnoticed by a lot but he does a hell of a lot of work for this squad.

Stewart and Wintle both seemed a little off the pace today and the passing wasn’t really good enough. Both got stuck in but neither really got on the ball and made anything happen. The forwards and Bowler in particularly dropped much deeper to pick up the ball as a result and we looked worse for it. Massive improvement when Dougall came on and looked more positive going forward (although his passing wasn’t too great either).

Bowler was keen to get on the ball, beat his man multiple times and was unfortunate that he’s not quite the finished article when it comes to making the final ball. He works hard, tracks back and tries be positive. Decision making will come with experience and hopefully crossing and passing with hard work on the training ground. Once he’s more polished he’ll be a Premier League player.

TJJ - wants too much time and space to do anything. Has a good touch 50% of the time and looks threatening over the first 10 yards of any run but then runs out of ideas, runs down dead ends or just misplaces a pass. Doesn’t work anywhere near hard enough for the team, doesn’t close down and press and doesn’t track back. Largely at fault for the second Forest goal and let them turn our attack into theirs by simply not working hard enough - which is unforgivable. I’ve seen it back and I don’t think it was a pen. Mitchell was a massive improvement.

Madine didn’t look on his game. Struggled to get involved, rarely held up the ball and ran around a lot without ever getting into a threatening position. He should be the ideal pivot between midfield and attack and players like TJJ, Bowler and Yates should be playing off of snd running beyond him but it didn’t happen. I can understand why Carey came in as Madine wasn’t playing as a Target Man and that between the lines role Madine should have been playing yesterday needs creativity and individuality so Carey was a reasonable switch. It didn’t work out for either unfortunately.

Yates - worked hard, gets into positions and makes himself available but the service wasn’t there. Scored a poachers goal and did everything asked of him all game. Covers more ground than most when our midfield are this deep and ineffectual and as a result ends up less likely to score himself. 3 goals in 10 games for Yates isn’t a bad return and he’ll only get better and better.

Dougall and Mitchell improved the team when they came on. Hopegully Keshi and Sterling as well as Gretarsson are back in contention on Wednesday.
I’d drop TJJ from the squad all together and would much rather bring Bange or another one of our own kids onto the bench as hopefully they’ll bust a gut and show TJJ up for his lack of work ethic.

Bristol City Fans Pre Match Comments.....


Tonight at 745 pm it’s Nottingham Forest under the lights at Ashton Gate, I reckon it will finish 1-1.

NIgel Pearson, who was born in the Bilborough area of the city and attended what was formerly known as the William Sharp School in Nottingham, will be making changes due to injuries and his assessment of Saturday’s game, after which he said, ‘Now there may be opportunities for other players to come out there and get an appearance this week, we’ll see whether they’re up to it.’ Allegedly, Forest have no new injury concerns after their win over Blackpool at the weekend.

Apparently 1,400 Forest fans will be in attendance. For stay at home supporters it’s on the red button.

Forest are one of many forgotten giants of English football. Even though they have been out of the Premier League for the entire 21st century, Forest were a force to be reckoned with during their heyday in the 70s. During their long and interesting history, they have won one League title, two FA Cups and four League Cups. In addition to their domestic trophies, Forest are one of only two British clubs to claim back-to-back European Cups (in all eight teams have won back-to-back European Cups.)

Their glory years were under the management of Brian Clough who took over the managerial role in 1975. Together with his assistant Peter Taylor, Clough transformed Forest into a competitive club with a penchant for attractive football. Even more impressively, it seemed like Forest became a contender overnight; after winning promotion to the First Division in 1977, they won a double the following year by claiming a League title and defeating Liverpool in the League Cup final.

After retaining the League Cup in 1979, Forest then went all the way in the European Cup beating Malmö FF 1-0 in the final. History repeated itself the very next season, with Forest once again reaching the final, where they defeated Hamburger SV 1-0 on the back of a tremendous performance by goalkeeper Peter Shilton (who was the first football player to make 1,000 League appearances.)

Clough led the club to two more League Cup trophies in 1989 and 1990 before deciding to retire in 1993, thus bringing an end to Forest's glory days. In 1999, the club was relegated to the Championship.

Of the many Cloughie quotes my favourite is “I got home late from a midweek away game and my wife Barbara said to me in bed, 'God, your feet are cold.' I said, 'Barbara, you can call me Brian when we are in bed, dear.'" Closely followed by his advice to a physio who was treating a concussed Stuart Pearce, Physio: ‘Boss he’s concussed and doesn’t know who he is’ Clough: ‘Tell him he’s Pele and that he’s playing up front for the last 10 minutes.’

They’ve fielded some impressive players over the years including, Viv Anderson, Trevor Francis, Des Walker, Martin O'Neill, Archie Gemmill, Peter Shilton, Kenny Burns, Neil Webb, Stuart Pearce and Roy Keane.

They currently are in 16th place with 14 points.

Sometime ago they very much joined the manager merry go-round. Last season they appointed Chris Hughton who lasted just shy of year and managed 14 wins in 53 games. Steve Cooper took up the poisoned chalice last month (when they were bottom of the league) and his first four games have resulted in 3 wins and 1 draw, so he’s certainly enjoyed a decent start, when he arrived they had four points from eight games, since he’s taken over they’ve picked up 10 points. He is the 14th manager they have appointed in the past 10 years, since Billy Davies departed in the summer of 2011. If he continues as he’s started they will be replacing the car park signage!

They are owned by Evangelos Marinakis a 54 year old Greek media mogul, shipowner, lyricist and member of the Piraeus city council. He is the owner of Olympiacos as well as Forest.

Our head-to-head record against them isn’t impressive, we’ve won 22, drawn 33 and lost 41.

Away from football both them and us once had the tobacco industry in common.

Four Forest facts

Samuel Widdowson played for Nottingham Forest in the 1870s and invented football shin pads in 1874.

When Forest beat rivals Derby in the FA Cup final in 1898, they swapped their red shirts for their opponents’ white shirts. This was because the photographer was worried the colour wouldn’t show up.

When Trevor Francis joined Nottingham Forest from Birmingham City for £1 million he became the first multi-million pound footballer.

Former Dr Who Matt Smith (no not the Millwall one) once played for Nottingham Forest’s youth team before the big success on the television. He played alongside Jermaine Jenas at one point, before they both went their separate ways to form a successful career.
