He is certainly showing intent to try and get the job. He seems very hungry for it. Certainly got support behind him. If it is a straight choice between him and Cooper, I'd pick Wilder all day long.
+1
+2
And I wouldn't expect him to answer to anyone on transfers either.
No probs with Dane's input as an assistant and helper, but he took Sheff U from League 1 to the Prem in 4 years and knows this division. He'd deserve backing.

Talk about Forest fans being doom and gloom merchants. Check out Paddy Powers tweet from earlier............
"Steve Cooper and Chris Wilder are the current favourites to be sacked as Nottingham Forest manager in the new year".
WTF?

WTF? I reckon even if we appoint steve cooper, wilder will remain in the running to be sacked by forest before the end of the season

But do the club want him?
I don't think they could cope with his strong personality.
They'd prefer a dullard who doesn't go against the grain.
I'm sure another 'attritional' manager is incoming.
(...and then we can complain that it's boring and that it's not the Forest Way etc. And that his tactics are wrong. And he should get our amazing players doing better than their pound stretcher budget suggests. And that he should play 4-4-2 not 4-2-3-1 cuz it's boring... We only ever win by 1-0 and that's never enough. It's a soul sucking grind. The style of football is...etc. Etc.)

I really like Wilder but does he fit into a longer term strategy based around youth, pathway from academy to first team etc? Or is he another appointment based on previous CV? I know the piece in the Post talks about him being happy to work under Dane and with a younger squad but how long would he be happy to do that? I'm torn over Wilder on the one hand I do really like him, like the football he plays and I think he'd get the best out of this squad in the short term but I just don't know about the long term with him, feels almost like another flavour of the month appointment.
You could argue that 90% of appointments made in this league turn out to be short term appointments.
I know we would all like a manager to come in for 3 or 4 seasons but when does that happen nowadays.
And you could argue that short term is all we can thibk about considering the clubs position
The average tenure for a Championship manager is .86 of a year or 10.32 months.

For me personally, I think I would opt for Chris Wilder. His preferred formation at Sheff Utd was 3-5-2. My concern with that is do we have the players capable of playing that formation. I think defensively, we are well equipped as well as the wing backs. Its in the attacking final third where I see us failing (still), due to a lack of any prolific striker. Would a change in formation help Grabs or Taylor? Its possible, but so far this season they have played alongside each other and there looks to be little, if any connection between the two of them. We could, and probably should, use Brennan Johnson as the support striker though.
As allured to in another post though, Chris Wilder is a man that don't take no crap off of anybody. This could create a fractious atmosphere at the club, particularly when it comes to bringing in new players.
A lot of Sheff Utd fans are still angry that he was sacked, which shows he was popular amongst their fanbase. I accept that he was one of their players before going into management and there is that touch of sentimentality surrounding him, but Stuart Pearce was one of our players but that didn't stop our fans from turning on him, so there must be something else that he was doing right for them. Exciting, entertaining football maybe? If so, I am sure we would all welcome some of that! He is available and wouldn't cost the club any compensation fee.
Then we have Steve Cooper. He did a good job at Swansea, but his preferred formation is the dreaded 4-2-3-1, which we all detest here at the City Ground, largely due to the fact that our players concentrate on the defensive aspect far too much and do not give enough support to the attacking third. Was that how they were coached by CH or is that the players natural tendency? Could they be coached into using the system better? Possibly, but to what effect? Coopers departure from Swansea was greeted with a mixed response, with some fans angry at his departure, whilst others were relieved to see him go due to the dour boring football his side was playing. That's not something we want at the City Ground anymore! His strength seem to lie in the encouragement of young players, which would fit in nicely with Dane's new philosophy, and he appears to be quite an amiable person too, which means he could be the same as Hughton was and lacking the passion to get the best out of his squad. But that is an assumption, so could be totally wrong.

Daniel Taylor obviously know that too. He was telling people yesterday not to put money on Wilder.

Unfortunately that is how we are perceived by wider football fans, a dysfunctional club. The phrase I most often see when looking at other fans forums talking about us is basket case.
You cant really blame them can you, JCK rightly points out that most managers dont last long in this division but we really are masters at it. I think the figure I saw yesterday was 22 managers in 10 years if you count in the temporary ones.
I really hope the new structure becomes a stable one and the banter brigade go back to laughing at Derby or someone else. Blackburn are a good example. I know they arent going places yet but they are a heck of a lot better these days and have stuck with Tony Mowbray for over 4 years now.
