Nottingham Forest - Cardiff City
The issue with Brennan will be that if he’s not going to sign a new contract they will want to squeeze as much out of him until January to maximise his price.

It's hard to disagree with that assessment.

I thought the Taylor & Grabban idea worked well generally. Taylor was not generally winning but competing for high balls to such an extent that we were winning 2nd balls. And having 2 strikers on the pitch was refreshing. Id like to see it again on Wednesday.

Max Lowe did very well after a tentative start. If he continues like that then he'll be a great addition and much better than I thought. I can see why Warnock dumped Spence. Hes looks a bit of a timid and quiet lad. Hopefully he'll gain some confidence and get better. A sound debut without pulling up any trees.

Im hoping Garner's performances will imprive as he gets match fit. Remember he's only played 2 games now since he left us last season.

I think their introductuon of Moore really knocked us. Its like we were beated before he even touched the ball. And then when we conceded you could see the energy drain away as their fears were confirmed. Cardiff were on top from about 35/40 minutes as they pressed on looking for an equaliser. Our paper thin confidence prevented us from pushing back. We were on the back foot and got bullied out of it from that point.

Lolley made an impact when he came on. Ch obviously told him to get a goal and he took every opportunity to shoot. I sense hes getting back his confidence and fitness.

Samba had clearly been prepared for the aerial bombardment but you could tell he was imtimidated by it. Other keepers have reacted the same way (Pants v Millwall). He looks completely flat and out of sorts. Hes obviously a confidence player. Id see what the other guy can do now tbh.

Brennan was pretty anonymous for the most part I tbought. We just see flashes of talent from him. He needs to be coached carefully to bring him up to level but do you keep perserving by auto selecting him when the new players are available or dip him in and out like Mighten?

A balanced summation.  Nailed it there, Pap.

It's difficult because of all the players at the club, he's the one you'd say could turn the entire club's fortunes around if he performs on the pitch to his full ability. Our goal v Coventry was delectable. The way Brennan took on and beat his man for pace and put a juicy cross into the box is how we could be if he gets up to speed. I think Taylor will thrive too with that service and suddenly you've got a pacey and dangerous winger and a top goal poacher both in top form. Enough to shoot you right up the table. But for me, for the most part this season Brennan's been a passenger with just the odd bit of decent stuff.

I agree - but the problem is we don't play the game on the grass enough. Far too much hit and hope from our CBs...

It must be a joy for teams playing against Forest these days. Just press hard when Forest are trying to build up an attack and they will start playing the long ball. As Forest have no players that can win the long ball it will be easy to win it back.

This happens every single game but I don't believe CH is instructing the team to play like that. It would be madness to deliberately play the long ball against Cardiff with Taylor and Grabban on top. To me it seems like CH is not trying to solve this tactical challenge presented to him but rather wait for better players to be available. I'm not so sure that will work.

Agree with this. I'd also add that I thought Yates played pretty well (I am usually super critical of him especially when we are in possession).
The main problem with 2nd half is we just gave them the ball back by kicking long at every opportunity. I'd had brought on Mbe Soh when they made their subs, or at least after their 1st goal!

While the fans have given up on Hughton, I don't think the players have.

It's funny how we all see the game differently. I thought Taylor and Grabban did well with the long balls. No striker is every going to win the majority of long balls v Flint & Morrison but what we did do was put those two giants under pressure and won the 2nd balls. Well, in the first half anyway. 2nd half Taylor lost his edge and energy and reverted to his usual falling over and complaining.

His contract expires in 2023 right? So there is no immediate pressure to sell in January when it's notoriously difficult to get decent value?

In fairness to Taylor he had plenty to complain about. He was being fouled on every challenge, and didn't get a decision, if he tried to match Cardiff physically the ref gave a foul against him!

Yep, this new leniency from refs is commendable and keeps the game playing which I'm all for when it goes against you it's hard to accept. And Cardiff probably identified Taylor's success on the long balls at HT and corrected it.

If we'd had a Murphy/Adebola type on the bench he could've come on when Taylor began to lose it, but that's another argument.
