Just a word on Silva and the comments re this being a Vrentzos signing.

Apparently this was very much a Chris Brass recommendation. He tried to sign him on loan at Wigan a couple of years ago and was very keen on us getting him in.

Not saying it’s not true... I hope it is... but if so why wasn’t it done earlier?

Wet spam didn’t want him and would have let him go any time.

Why did we only go for him when all other options had failed?

I know it’s annoying but I’m very sceptical at the moment I have tried taking a break for a few days from all forest related. Think I need the football to start again so we know either way about the new signings.

I agree and bored the forum with my criticisms of why things were not done sooner. For example, Max Lowe. 4th choice at Sheffield, local lad. Must have been the easiest signing possible but we left it until the week before Derby even though LB was a disaster till that point.  But, we didnt give him the week before Derby to train, no, we brought him in the day before the game meaning Bong was the only option again. That can only be the CEO's fault and did CH no favours and I pressed the point on here but the opinion of the forum was that Murphy should be without criticism.

I think it is clear that players like Lowe and Silva were not our first choice. We held on as long as we could for Buchanan and until the last minute we were signing Maja. We tried to sign good players but clubs didn't want to release them as they needed them or wanted too much money.

Its a mystery to me. The only plausible explanation is that we thought we could do better and Drager  (and Lowe) were our fall backs.

Murphy or Hughton didnt want Drager and the bit about the analytics being good was bxxxxxks but we brought him in when it became desperate. Still doesnt explain why we brought in Spence on the same day.

Or there was some messing around at the Greek end and they arent always as helpful as we might like to think.

Very valid points on Lowe, Silva and Drager.

Depends on what and who you believe.  There's been talk from someone who is well connected with NFFC that says the reason for the business is cos of Vrentzos' interference and hindrance of Murphy who became frustrated.  Apparently Ojeda was his choice also, but his 3rd choice.  (From links, can only assume Harroui and Laurent were the first two)

Alternative view is we spent too long going for the other options.

What I find weird is we allegedly offered a few million for players, which didn't pan out.  €3.5m for Harroui.  Someone very close to Buchanan said Derby would sell for £3m.  

We were posturing the whole window through, to keep fans thinking we were committed to the 'new plan' and to ensure the sale of thousands of season tickets?  Or did we have set values of players and wouldn't go above them?

Eitherway, it led to a disappointing summer window ultimately.

I'm far from CH's biggest fan, but we've left him with a job on I feel in what will likely be a relegation battling season.

20m in those 4 wasters alone. If we'd have had just 3-5m of that available this window it could be the difference between staying up & going down.

He's had a hell of a job to do.  Cleaning up Sabri's train wreck and salvaging the remains of last Summer's window.  Steadying the ship before you can even think about promotion.

Posturing?  We may have got one of those players if they were really worth it, didn't have a bad back or if the clubs wanted to sell.  People inside Forest are entitled to debate whether that's a good investment of '£3 million' or not.

Do we really want to pay Derby £3 million for a LB?  Rooney didn't want to sell.  They're skint but don't want to sell.

Many clubs still wanting 'big money' for assets.  That's their prerogative.  But who's been spending zillions apart from City?

And there haven't been any big spenders outside of Fulham in the Championship?

I doubt he was the clubs first choice in that position.
At least they had a back up plan.

May be at the time, we were in need of a Left Back as we had just signed Osei-Tutu for the RB spot. Drager is a right sided player and didn't figure in the immediate plans? (we were in for Buchanan at the time for the LB spot?)

Sorry I dont buy that Tricky. Both full back positions were high priority. If they knew they were going to sell on Gabriel they knew they needed 2 RBs regardless. Drager was mentioned months ago. If we believe the club PR spin then Drager’s stats are excellent which was why he was brought in.

So putting all of that together he should have been here back in July and had a preseason here, not signed on deadline day. Someone is telling porkies.
