Rate the Transfer Window

I thought it would be fun to grade the window, we can then take an average to see the COYR Transfer Window Rating for Summer 2021.


So for me:

Positives-
Kept Brennan and Worrall
Zinck
Garner is back
Added depth at GK, RB (loads of it possibly!) and attacking wide areas.
Team looks much younger, clear pathways for Johnson & Mighten to get game time. Along with Ojeda who comes highly rated, has a profit written all over him.
Added more pace
Shifted a lot of deadwood

Negatives-
Took way too long to sign a LB and got left without one for multiple games
No striker (unless Silva turns out to be used as a striker)
Only one LB
Did we need that many RBs? (maybe to cover LB!)
We only signed at most one striker

Overall, a better window than average, however the LB saga whilst being a little unlucky with Soh injury and Bong suspension loses them a mark for me, taking it from an 8 to a 7.

If Maja had of come off it would've been an 8 or even a 9.

Looking at the window now I give it 10/10 for outgoings and 6.5/10 for incomings. We have 3 wildcards in Silva, Drager and spence (if he arrives).
Lowe, horvath, garner, odeja, tu tu and zinkernackle will do well I think and give us some width from fullback and progressive play from deep midfield.

I will be critical when necessary, to sign 3 different right backs is plain ridiculous, but some need to give their heads a wobble.

For the first time in 10 seasons we havent sold a key asset to the team.
We have massively reduced the wage bill which will reduce the need to sell in future
We have brought in 8 maybe 9 new bodies- more than many suggested at the start of the summer.
We have significantly reduced the age of the squad, no more 30 somethings on ridiculous contracts.
We have added some genuine pace at long last, one of the biggest problems with last seasons team.
Midfield creativity looks far stronger now.

The balance of our squad is just ridiculous. We've not addressed some key issues still, like having 2 complement left-backs, but having 6 right-backs (WTF?!). We've ignored the need for us to have someone with a turn of pace in the #9. Whilst also blocking the pathways of Back, Fornah, Richardson, Swan, Hammond.

The Ojeda signing is positive. Garner on loan.

The rest range from 'meh' to 'why the hell?'.

Been a poor window all in.

Arter, Da Costa, Jenkinson, Bong, Colback, Taylor all still on the books. Bare a saving of what wont be much as Charlton and Caen aren't cost cutting clubs, there's well in excess of £100,000 a week there.

There's an unwillingness from a few to accept or understand the reality of you either sell and use the funds to strengthen or you accept a low budget. However if you're not getting great offers due to a depressed market then surely its better to hang tight and wait for things to pick up. 

Can't have it both ways.

I'm not sure how Swan's path to the team is blocked?! We literally bought no strikers! I feel like if we don't sign a CM/RB you criticise for that too right? How could they win?

I don't think people are frustrated with that.  I know I'm not.  The club doesn't need to spend millions to keep me happy.  They don't need to spend millions to get good players either.  Blackburn just signed a quality young one for 500k.  Preston a good one from St Johnstone for a small fee.

The reason we're struggling with a budget though, is because we keep making the same mistakes.  We're currently paying salaries to 6 professional right-backs.  

That's why we keep finding ourselves short.  That type of business right there.
