Well, that was the CBs covered. I believe we all feel that we have a good set of CBs at the club and that we should be covered for the rest of the season if we can avoid any serious injuries. It seems that we also agree that Fox is the preferred candidate to be on the left side in the center of defense. Hef has done a good job on the right side but maybe it is time for Daws to get his chance at nailing down that position. Competition is at least good.
Now onto the extremely important DMC role.
Colback: 7,5
Now I understand better why this guy was worth waiting for in the summer. In my opinion Colback has been without question, our best DMC. What has impressed me most is his ability to read the game and sniff out the danger. I must admit that I thought Watson would be our main man in that area but Colback has proved me wrong. He has been very good at breaking up play with some cracking challenges and never say die attitude. It's interesting to note that Colback has the best passing success percentage at the club with 87% while also being in the top when it comes to passes done. He’s also the player at the club who gets fouled the most which I believe underline how competitive and smart he is a player. Colback and Fox must be the first two players on the team sheet.
Geddy: 7
Adlene started the season with a couple of second to none performances. I have never seen him so good as he was in the first two games. He hasn't managed to fully follow up on those two performances, but he's still been pretty solid. Geddy works good together with Colback as he’s more of a deep laying playmaker. He always plays with a smile on his face and you can tell that he loves playing for Forest. I'm very happy to have this guy back at Forest.
Bridcutt: 6,5
Bridcutt has had limited opportunities this season and there doesn't seem to be an easy way for him into the team on a more regular basis. The times he has played he has done a good enough job. He always gives 100% and covers a lot of ground but for some reason that doesn't seem to be quite enough for Karanka. Buying two new DMCs while both Bridcutt and Yates are available tells you that Karanka isn't ready to relay on these two which is a surprise for many of us. I wouldn't be surprised however if Bridcutt was to leave in the January window. Not because of his performances but because we just have too many DMCs.
Watson: 6,5
Watson started the season a bit shaky but has recently shown that he’s gradually getting back to previous season’s form. Watson is a good reader of the game and is good at breaking up play. Not one blessed with a lot of pace and I feel at times that he lacks urgency when defending but he usually compensates that with being at the right place at the right time. Currently, I believe Watson is third in line behind Colback and Geddy and I don't see any signs that he will move up on current form. He could actually see that the two new recruits could move ahead of him in the near future.
Osborn (midfield): 6,5
Osborn has been asked to fill in as DMC a couple of times and he has as you would expect, solved that quite well. He has so much energy and drive and he doesn't stop closing down or running at the oppositions defense with or without the ball at his feet. Brings so much to the team independent on where he plays on the pitch.
Yates has been given a few minutes in the League cup but not enough playing time to give any meaningful rating. I'm a bit disappointed that he hasn’t been given more of a chance as I believe he did very well during pre-season which also Karanka has confirmed. But Karanka has for some reason, gone out and bought two additional new DMCs instead of giving this highly promising youngster a chance. I think that is a pity but hopefully Yates will get a loan deal in January. He has to keep on progressing and a shot at a Championship club would be ideal.
The two new DMCs that came in after the window closed have not yet been given any playing time so there are still some uncertainties as to what they can contribute with. On paper they both seem like decent acquisitions. Yacob has a lot of experience from English football with West Brom and he has even had a few games for Argentina. Transfermarkt has his value estimated to 3,5 MEUR which is surprisingly high as he is 31 years old. Tachtsidis has played for a few top clubs mostly in Italy and has actually played 128 games in Serie A in addition to 25 games for Greece. Not bad at all. He's apparently more of a play maker than Yacob and it will be very interesting to see how he will adapt to Championship football. The potential should definitely be there.
So guys, that was my brief assessment of our DMCs now let me hear your views.
