I can see and appreciate both sides of the argument and at the moment I kind of agree with both sides of the argument too!

I would be happy to give him a bit longer IF, he starts to be more flexible in his formations, substitutions and tactics.

I can't hold him responsible for the injury crisis currently crippling our club though

Listening to him after last nights game he said he would not be changing formation.

He can't if he hasn't got the players to do that.

SA.

So he could not play 433 or 442 with the players he has? He could even go 352. His stubbornness will not allow that. He needs to adapt as a coach.

I think he could play 442, not sure we have the players for 433 or 352

442: same defence
Mighten Yates Colback Zinckernagel (not sure he'd suit an out and out wing role)
Grabban Taylor (or johnson)

Or 433
Yates colback fornah
Mighten grabban Zinck

Or 343
Figs McKenna fernandes
Wingbacks - Mighten Back
Yates colback
Zinckernagel Grabban Johnson

Any of those sound appealing?

I think there are others who could play in central midfield that we have not tried yet...

Fornah and Cafu, none have been given an opportunity yet. More mobile and both better on the ball too. Rather than the 2 that are a very worrying win percentage when paired together. Well less of the win. Cafu can play in a 3 too. With one of Yates or Colback. Pre season Hughton said Johnson could play as an 8 too. Maybe he could give it ago, the reality is, he has nothing to lose, with a pairing of Yates and Colback the only way he is going is out of the door.

Yeah agreed on Cafu, he seemed to like him last year too, I'm surprised he's picking Colback above him now. Plus Yates was really bad on Wednesday!

Can't judge Fornah having not really seen him but it does seem a big ask for him to just step in out of nowhere and be expected to improve the team. Also, not sure that's great for his development. Look at Johnson, fans have already turned on him after 3 games saying he's not good enough, doing nothing, should be dropped etc.

Colback is being picked because Johnson is in the side and the full back positions are in such a state. We're a defensively minded player down when Johnson plays. We get bodies further forward but the down side on that is we're less solid in the middle. Switching Johnson for Cafu is an option for me. On paper we may lose some dynamism with Johnson out the side but in reality he's contributed 45 minutes to the season so far so, the rest of the time he's been anonymous. Cafu is a steady hand who makes a small difference when he plays.

But, while we've got these problems with the full backs Colback has to stay in the side. Without him looking after them it's open season on our FB's. If it's Back at RB on Saturday, which looks inevitable, who on here wants the lad to be trashed before his Forest career has even begun?

Cafu was probably dropped to the bench because of the 'kung fu' swipe instead of jumping for the ball. He's older and should know better. I think Hughton is the type of manager who is honest. And if players aren't honest ie. They don't listen. They'll get benched.

He wasn't great the last time he played. At all. I don't see how he's a better option than Colback. Colback got thrown to the ground (allegedly) in the build up to the Blackburn goal.

Is that Colback's fault? Or the ref's?

Or recruitment's for not getting in a ball playing CM sooner?

It's a much of a muchness. We keeping saying how poorly they've done. They weren't poor 1st half vs Coventry. And last game, Brennan isn't holding play up like eg. Krov'. So it puts more pressure on Colback and Yates.

When we had a ball playing Garner, Colback was benched. So we can't draw any other conclusion than to say by accommodating Brennan, you have to be more solid in CM. I get the logic in that.

We didn't get Garner and Krov' back. So, my view, recruitment has allowed us to start the season with a weaker CM/ACM. The fans wanted Car' to play. But he did nothing bar one mazy run/bit of skill. He's not as good as Krov'. He's anonymous. Krov' used to get stuck in and pressure the opposition. Not a lot of goals....but he was in no way anon'.

And? Hughton doesn't have the players to change it. Cafu is mediocre in CM and Fornah is a rookie. (And it's not like playing half a team of kids has put points on the board. Well, has it?)

Good points SA. The club could easily have shored the midfield up by further securing the services of Krov, even if it meant that it would  contradict this new principle of only signing young players based on data. It would have given us time to phase Johnson into the side, and Forna, while there's still quality on the pitch doing the business.  Same with Christie. Or even Jenkinson. In his case, we should've accepted the reality that he's never going to leave behind his contract of his own accord and taken the pragmatic approach of using him as a stop gap for a year.

 Yup.  Pure common sense.

Pragmatic.  As opposed to choking our on principles.

Because without three or four new players it will not matter who is in charge.

We now have the bare bones of a squad; we are having to play Academy youngsters who are not ready to play because there are no senior players left

If Murphy is holding back on signings because the plan was to get rid of Hughton all along, why has he waited so long?

If that was the plan, Murphy should follow him out of the door due to his gross incompetence.

We are now in a relegation fight because he has not done his job.

Hell of a lot of assumptions in there. First, Murphy's been here a month. If you want to lay the blame on those running the club, it needs to be placed on people that have been here a lot longer like Vrentzos and his merry band of screwups who were responsible for last summer's scattergun window. Second, we are not in a relegation fight because HE has not done his job. Was it him who let our two best LBs go and left us with Bong? That was done before he got here. Was it him who signed dross like Jenkinson a few years back leaving us no option but to play kids there? It is decisions like these that have left the club in a relegation scrap and yet you want to blame it on a guy who has been here 4 weeks. Third, you accused Murphy of holding back on signings so he could sack Hughton. I would call that irresponsible, ridiculous and without anything based in facts but that would only scratch the surface.

With all the accusations you've thrown around, you've left Hughton off the hook. Sorry, but he needs to bear a big part of the blame.

Murphy has been here more than a month. He had already been working before he was officially announced.
