Most of his signings were decent players (the odd exception ahem) but they didnt gel at all and we needed the loans of Ian Wright, who was brilliant and a young John Terry to stop us hurtling towards the bottom.
What I find unfathomable to this day is why the owners back then backed Platt so heavily in the old 1st div. but had decimated Harry Bassets squad and given him £2.50 to spend when we were in the Premier.
Weren’t Wray, Scholar and co gone by then and Eric Barnes and Doughty in control?

Yep, I think you're right. Platt was a Doughty appointment. Can I recall Doughty later expressing regret at giving such an inexperienced manager but funds to spend, or have I just invented that?

I recall something to that effect being mentioned at some point Pap

On this day 8/7 in 2008, Andy Cole secured what he described as a 'dream move' to Forest. The Nottingham-born striker would only play 11 times for the Reds, without scoring, before leaving the club and retiring.

Always preferred Lyttle at right back but Alfie was no slouch.
