Nottingham Forest - Norwich City
#25
Norwich play a narrow 4-2-3-1 formation which uses a short passing style in the middle third of the pitch. Not a team for building out from the back they prefer to get the ball into the midfielders quickly and then control possession further up the pitch.

Despite using a consistent 11 this season Norwich players seem to have benefited from double training and an early pre-season as the players energy levels outlast many other teams in closing stages of the games and this has helped them turn draws into wins more often than not. In fact, they have scored 16 goals this season in the final 10 mins of matches 11 of those 16 are from open play in the 18 yard box. Yet even though Norwich are dangerous in the final moments of a game most of their goals actually come in the first half of a match with more than half of their 53 goals happening in the first 45 mins.

Norwich are a team built to attack centrally over use of the wings will often create chances using through balls rather than getting to crossing positions. The main threat and reason this works so well is not because they have pukki (21 championship goals) but because they have Buendia pulling the strings. A hugely talent player with 12 assists so far and average match performance rating to match.

Even though Norwich have a lot of strengths and are rightly top of the league I’ve had a look at areas which they have been vulnerable this season.

Norwich’s Goalkeeper is Tim Krul and has been very consistent so far this season however the same weakness remains since I first saw him play at Newcastle and that is his inability to set himself in time for long range efforts. So worth taking a pot shot as it were, from wherever you get an opening, just get it on target.

Second weakness and more likely to be exploited by Forest is Norwich’s lack of Aerial strength and reactions to a second ball when defending. Norwich have really had the luck on their side with this one as chances for the attacking team have come very regularly during the games and yet players seem unable to control the rush of blood and just swing at the ball. A bit of composure and it’s in. I haven’t investigated the statement that is floating around from Norwich fans but they were insinuating that more chances have been missed from within the 6 yard box against them than any other team in the league.

My view on the outcome is that Norwich will just have that extra bit of class over us in this game especially early on while we get to grips with the midfield battle but the first blow could have already been struck. Norwich to win by 1 or 2 goals.

Just put on another thread that with last nights results going generally for us, we get a free hit against Norwich tonight. If we get any kind of result then that's a bonus, if we get beat, are is most likely to happen imo, then hey ho, no damage done.

Also, I saw the sheep game last night against Brentford. First half sheep never laid a glove on them and Brentford looked like they were going to win at a canter, as they passed the ball around carelessly. 2nd half Rooney sent the sheepies out to get in the faces of Brentford, upped their tempo and they were much more physical. I worked very well and they dominated the 2nd half. I'm not sure we can play in that kind of way but it did make Brentford look pretty average. Maybe we could stick Sow in on Saturday and try to do similar?

I could be wrong here but I have a feeling that we won't see the likes of Ribeiro and Sow again in a red shirt.

CH said he was probably going to continue to rotate LB, with Bong, Blackett & Ribeiro, for the rest of the season, so we might yet see Yuri again this year, but I wouldn't be surprised to see both, or either released this summer. Yuri stands a chance of winning a new contract, if he can earn it on the pitch, but I agree I doubt Sow will appear again.

We need to lose one LB this summer and as Bong and Blackett are still in contract then it's going to be Ribs that leaves by default, unless CH really pushes hard to keep him or Blackett announces he wants away to get some game time.

Don't forget Ioannou, he's still our player too.

Yes, I imagine it will play out that way

He's another one who has effectively gone.

Anyone, aside from Academy products, who didn't make the 25 squad this season is almost certainly going to be surplus in the summer.

If someone wasn't good enough this year then there's no reason to suspect we'd downgrade to make them good enough next year, we'll want better than people we've already rejected.
