Duncan. That's probably the truth of the matter. I didn't realise he only had a year left on his contract and that was this year. Disagree. I'd put that on the defence. Samba has done poorly there. He has to save it. But the defence was all at sea. Where was Figs? Was that him caught out of position further up the pitch? Reading put more pressure on Forest 2nd half. They're decent enough and picked up momentum. But we should have held on there. At least Forest scored 1st half. 'Almost'. That's been a feature of Forest's season. SA.

I felt this was the most winnable game of this mini run and so disappointing to get ahead and then concede late on. Not a disaster and although Rotherham have games in hand, the run of games they are going to have to face from now until May will be very tough for them.
Another defensive slip up and we drop points. The habit of conceding late - Swansea, Derby and now Reading, is coming back to bite us just like last season. We don't concede many but you look at the goals we have conceded and so many just seem so easily avoidable. I don't really blame the defence too much - if we could do the business the other end and actually create and score then perhaps that might help the defence out. Don't fancy we will get anything from next two games so will see what the gap is after that

There are 4 teams that have conceded less goals than us. Norwich (1st), Watford (2nd), Swansea (3rd) and Millwall (10th). Not bad for a 'soft' defence, who have contributed to 'our malaise'!

Loss vs Luton. Loss vs Watford. Losing a late goal vs Derby. Losing a late goal vs Reading. Hughton has tightened Forest up to the point we don't get spanked and games are closer. We are competitive. But a feature of those results was conceding. 'Soft' goals. It's close. Championship games are tight. And one of our CHs was AWOL for that goal today. And the keeper should have saved. Soft goal. ;) SA.

Problem isn't the defence - yes they make mistakes but most will.
The problem is the other end. Take the Luton and Derby matches - on top for much of the game but can't make it count. Each time we get hit by a sucker punch against the run of play and there you go 5 points lost. Defence are being made scapegoats for the inability of our forward way to create and score chances.

You could even say that the only difference between this season and last season is last season Grabban scored 20 goals and this season he has scored 3.
If you take away 17 of his goals from last year then chances are we would be in a similar place to where we are now. In fact you could argue that defensively we are good or even better than last season as our goals conceded per game is lower than last season Fairly basic analysis I know but I think we need to not be so harsh on the defence.

We haven't scored enough goals this season. Points dropped.
We have given away soft goals. Points dropped. Plenty of positives, we played well for large parts of game. |
