The injury thing is interesting. Players can get injured when they're not fit enough.

ie. Not fit enough for a season in the Championship. We had a good dollop that didn't seem to be.

McKenna. Sow. Luke. Lolley. Grabban (hip, that's probably along with the calfs been an issue for some time). Colback off the back of a bad injury and not playing for a year.

That doesn't sound like it adds up to a good start to a season. And so it proved.

The one thing I did hear form a Hughton interview was that he'd upped the volume of training. (Effectively engaging an on the fly pre-season during his arrival to get the lads fit by the sounds of it. An incisive January 'emergency' window to shore things up further. We're certainly more competitive now. And games are tighter.)

In short, I want to see what a Hughton pre-season looks like. Along with that Gary and Chris recruitment this Summer.

This season is about damage limitation.

I don't have a problem with any of those pairings. It's essential that Worrall stays.

The $64,000 question!

I wouldn't be surprised to see another Hughton flavoured CH come in.  Somebody who has spatial awareness, a bit bigger and can stand up to some of the bigger lads in the Championship.  Competition for Worrall and McKenna.

For top 6.  I see Figs as a reserve CH.  Some might see that as harsh.  He's had his good moments in a Forest shirt.  No doubt.  But I wonder if we added up all those 'situations' from his side of the CH pairing if we'd count him as 'rick' or just 'unlucky.'  If we could collect a decent fee for him I could see Hughton pursuing his own thoughts re: CH.  For now, to be fair, Hughton has stuck by his man.  And to be fair.  It's not like the strikers are scoring goals.

At some point Heff' leaves and that frees up a space.  This his last year?

Heff and Dawson are off. That leaves us with Worrall, Mckenna, Soh and Figs. We are sorted.

I'd forgotten about Dawson. So that's Heff and Dawson 'off' our books.

Tragic times, impossible circumstances but with a full house bringing Dawson on for the last few minutes would of been a nice gesture, but i guess he'll be 90 by next game with fans

I'd imagine (& hope) we don't touch that, that's the one area where you can say we have adequate cover, so it would be crazy & unnecessary to mess about there.

The whole midfield will be changing, to one degree or another, & we're likely to have new faces in attack,so no point over doing things & fiddling in the one area that works & is relatively stable & sustainable.

Yet another midfield reboot.  But, ultimately, perhaps necessary.  For me, it's where games are won and lost.

You can't be top 6 with part timer wingers, a set of midfielders you don't own but loan...and spend half the season without a no.10 of any note (or ANY CMs that can pass a ball.)

It only compounds having 3 ancient strikers.

The midfield battle in modern football is between coaches & accountants.

You have two types of midfielders (although some exist in both categories), you have your water carriers & your magicians, usually, but not exclusively, usually divided between DM & AM & run of the mill, bog standard, water carriers are ten a penny, where as magicians cost a kings ransom, so every time a coach wants new midfielders he's looking at the designer label magicians, where as the clubs accountants will be wondering if we could make do with another water carrier from the bargain bucket instead.

It's why we've had so many "DM's" its because they are cheap & easy to source, every agent has got a book full of nice, tidy defensive midfielders, hard working, professional, can get a tackle in, but not so hot on the passing, shooting or scoring. & all yours for a fraction of the price of that sports model you've been looking at instead...
