15M for Appiah and Brereton. That should be applauded.

Come on Sniff, you know I am going to bite at that!

It was definitely good business or Appiah who maybe one of those who never makes it, so far good money for Brereton too although I wonder if his career will be a bit like Bamford who comes good a few years later.

Thing is though I can accept we sell to survive as a Championship club but if that money is reinvested correctly we progress from that income. Instead we have spent all of it and more on the fees and wages of over 70 players, the majority of whom have contributed little before moving on again, very few have been sold on for a profit, those that have a modest fee and practically all dont give a stuff about the club unlike those youngsters who grew up here.

Sniffer is spot on though, the transfer fees for those two players was excellent and should be applauded.

Both good deals, and neither come back to haunt as of yet

Shame the money reinvested by both owners has not been good enough!

Are you therefore saying we should applaud Fawaz for the £30M we received for Britt and Burke?

not everything is black/white or good/bad
even Fawaz had some good moments
some of our transfers have been good, some a waste of money

For me this January window was much better than the last. Have we learnt our lessons or was it just luck? I don't know.

Taking 13m for Burke instead of the reported 10m + sell on clause was probably the best thing Fawaz ever did at Forest.

Agree with that - not that we had anything to beat  :(

I think they were both fantastic deals, especially with the benefit of hindsight, I was more against either of those sales than I was Brereton and Appiah because of what I felt they were contributing at the time they left.

How we spend money is a different matter and one I have been very vocal on but lets not be totally binary so as to ignore that both sales were excellent deals for the club.

Problem with this window is they are not our future, we may get garner on loan next year, but cannot see us paying for knockaert, krovinovic will not come cheap and Murray will be 38 in to next season so surely would not be a first 11 signing.

Actually yes, the 15m for Britt was excellent business (although I suspect it was more just Boro made a big offer and Fawaz said yes)

Burke less convinced but by all accounts he wanted the move. I think his value would've increased that year had we kept him though. I'm aware it was more about Fawaz needing money to pay the bills.

Why wouldn't we sign Knockaert? Seems to fit the bill of exactly the type of signing this board would make and be slated for! Krov might be a tougher buy but a loan with a fee if we went up is a deal I could see being done

Not sure how effective this would be but I would make all transfer offers with hefty fees if and only if we were to go up (from the championship).

Might be able to pick up a few players we wouldn't have otherwise got and worst case scenario we actually go up and have to buy them!

Worked for Leeds...
