Why Do Nottingham Forest Keep Failing?

We do need a 5 year plan, but not one centred around a manager. Managers come and go, and one isn’t going to stay for such a long period. A plan centred around a manager means when he leaves we are back to square one. We’ve made this same short termist mistake over and over in the past twenty years.
A plan needs to be followed regardless of who the current manager is. Brentford’s plan continues regardless of who their coach is.

I’ve said there has been no overall strategy with manager appointments, up to now. Hughton’s tactical approach is not dissimilar to Lamouchi’s and the former is able to work with the current squad.

Well I personally think that is the wrong strategy then, we don’t need to keep playing with the brake on. Hughton at moment hasn’t really got a tune out of them, and I guess if wanted like for like, that’s what we are getting, but not exactly entertaining or successful is it

After 5 games? It isn’t the instant gratification that some fans want, no.

Hughton has 3 promotions to his name. With respect, I trust his tactical judgement far more than I trust yours.

He has 2 promotions, one with Newcastle which had a fabulous squad, but i agree he did very well to get Brighton up, and did get Birmingham into Play offs (following their relegation from EPL).

I was (as you can look back on this forum) against his appointment as felt getting like for like, plus i wanted a fresh new manager with new ideas and pick these lads up, and someone who not been out the game 18 months.

As it is, i was very impressed with how he spoke when he came in, and has all the experience in the world, and like you say has been very successful in this league. I also hoped he was a lucky manger after we got the "bum" winner against Blackburn. Yet each game forest dont seem to play till behind or second half and as i said looks like we are playing with the foot on the brake, and we are still crying out for creativity and goals (see my summer thread on that).

I feel he hasn't used his subs wisely, not surprised that as soon as Colback in the side we struggle big time again (our only win was when he was in the stand), and he quickly needs to work out his best 11, cos at the moment we look a very poor side.

But his has an aurora about him, and if you asked me ideally i would've made Chris Hughton the Sporting Director, and let him mentor a young new manager/first team coach. Some of his assistants have done well in the game, like Nathan Jones.

As it is, you're absolutely right he has only had 5 games, and he is working with what he has (which is a massive unbalanced squad) and hoping he can a tune out of them. Surely he can manage forest to beat Coventry and Wycombe at home, it must be 6 points, shouldnt it??

In answer to the thread title, we've not had an owner/CEO/DOF capable of making the right decisions to take us up.

The manager & players cop it, but this season shows how taking a mathematical approach to promotion (good players + good manager) doesn't work with any strategy or plan behind it.

I didn't like Marthur, Fawaz was a dolt, and I don't like Vrentzos. The owners all deserve criticism, but the simplest change we can make for our biggest improvement is to take the people between the manager & the owner out of the equation where on-pitch footballing decisions are concerned (and the owner too for that matter IMO.

Arthur knew feck all about Champ footy, Fawaz too, and Vrentzos now too. Vrentzos should be fully focused on finances & supporting the manager, not telling or trying to influence how the players are used.

Yuri Ribero the perfect example. should be a first team starter and whoever has created the political situation which means he isn't should be slapped down massively.

To be fair to EM, you could suggest that he has indeed learned his lessons on what it takes to be sucessful in the championship. He stuck with Sabri until his position became really untenable (could've sacked him at the end of the season). He's now hired an experienced manager with a successful record, and now bought in a load on british based players, all with good pedigree. We have to see how it pans out but I would suggest there's a definite change in strategy this season. 

And we have no idea what's gone on with Ribiero but if he does come back into the fold, as seems to be happening, then that suggests that there's been an intervention from CH.

The rumour I've read - and I stress it is only a rumour - regarding Ribeiro was that EM wanted to take him to Oly on the back of him doing so well last season but he didn't want to go, and as a result found himself frozen out.

Like I said before. Why would we shoot ourselves in the foot by doing that? We wouldn't.

I've said it before on here, my guess is he chose the wrong time to ask for a pay rise.

Maybe more money was offered but only if he moved to Oly? That might be a plausible explanation.

What ever happens or did happen with Ribeiro, the team has bigger problems. We have played OK for small spells only.
I understand that it takes time to change, and I'm patient. However, look at Reading, it has just clicked the the new manager.
