Goals Creativity & Style Of Play

3 main points for me.
The tempo needs to pick up we are still too slow.
Also need to take more risks, put more bodies forward.
The worst and more worrying thing is some players look to be going through the motions and are miles away from standard.
It could be a long season. Not CH fault, issues have been going on for months.

Last year we were often poor but we always looked dangerous on the break. This year we just dont threaten at all. Last year hinged heavily on the full backs breaking quickly, we lost Cash which was inevitable, to discard Ribeiro seems careless.
We have scored 5 goals all season, only Wycombe have scored less. Even at this stage the league table doesnt lie.

Top summary, and scary stat!

Let's trim the squad size, have a pre-season and recruit players who can score goals.

See if it works.

So then, England kicked off last night in a 5221 formation. I cant help thinking had CH tried that he would be absolutely slaughtered on here and elsewhere for picking 7 defenders and 3 attacking players.

You could argue that England didnt look much like scoring from the 2nd minute, on on the other hand the tactic was mostly successful in stifling a technically superior opponent. Forget the penalties, England achieved a 1-1 draw against the best team in the competition. Forest do that against West Brom for example that is a pretty decent result and who are we to say the bloke who has got England to our first final in 55 years is wrong.

It may have been dull to watch but is this the way we need to go?

Quality players on the pitch last night. If youve got decent players then you can change the system to suit any situation.

Harry Kane has looked isolated at times in this tournament, parallels to Grabban for us.

Southgate also reluctant to make subs similar to Hughton.

The problem for me is that England should really be the best team in the competition. Definitely on par with Italy.

And regarding the formation, for me it's not so much about 5221, 433 or 4231. The main thing is the teams willingness to take chances. England focus on solid defending and are very reluctant to take chances. Having only 30% possession at home is not very impressive.

First 20 mins Italy couldn't contain the wingbacks then they started sitting and playing as 5 which was always a recipe for trouble. The key to that formation working is accepting that the other team can get behind the two wingbacks and that you're 3 CBs can cover.

Then you force the other team to have to worry about your extra wide players which is what happened at the start. I personally like this formation but it's not always easy to actually execute. You're asking a lot of the CBs and wingbacks. Do we have those players?
