i like the sound of Colback and Yates, even Colback, Yates and Yacob, I quite like the idea of creating a brick wall, see if we can nick something, more offensive options from off the bench if required

I just love any goal, the first, don't know about anyone else, but I am wondering if it hadn't hit the defenders boot it might of actually missed, the boozer I watched the game in had pretty large, HD screen, I couldn't hear any commentary, but saw the goal numerous times

there was a large elderly contingent sat on my side and the other half of the room was sad cases watching some pointless European thing, i'd had a couple of pints of rather strong beer and loving every tackle and all the needle

anyway, i'm sure everyone who observed my reaction to the 2nd would agree it must of been a fizzing, dipping, bending screamer, definitely no over reaction on my part

Snif I want to be controversial with this statement...since Colback is here just on loan...what anyone think if, we r mathematically out of a play offs run, we try Yates nd Ozzy in the centre of the park...size wise is no different from Colback, hair same colour...energy similar....nd he is one of our own..no need to spend millions on him nd not even a hefty sign on fee
... been saying our problem is in the middle of the park...even though the individuals are seen to play well, at the same time we still seem that we r under pressure nd never
comfortable...some food for thought...

It's a 4-3-3 that can become a 4-2-3-1, among other variations.

I think any defence, already struggling with Grabban's movement, would be terrified to look up & see Appiah, Cash, Yates & Lolley charging towards them.

No.  Os' is too light weight there as part of a two.  Always has been.  Always will be.  But he is tough 'enough' to play slightly more advanced of a fulcrum like Colback.  And it doesn't matter that Yates is inexperienced with Colback behind him (them both...)

As part of of a three?  As with Sat'?  Np.  It worked a treat.  Preston didn't know what hit them.

Yates on one side.  Os' on the left CM (then we might 'just' have found Os' best position, FINALLY!)

And Colback?  WE MUST SIGN HIM PERMANENTLY!

Looking at the work their doing with Appiah it's clear one of the options they're looking at, & teaching him, is to work with an inside right who can interchange which then not only gives you more variation on the flanks but allows for more fluidity in system, so that a 4-3-3 can quickly become a 4-1-2-3 on the break, with Colback covering, with the wide players in the 3 becoming inside forwards, behind a front 3, giving you up to 5 bodies quickly in the box, & then again, in defence seeing Yates fall back beside Colback & Cash becoming an aggressive high pressing ACM, in a 4-2-3-1.

Martin will not only want a plan A & a plan B he will want those plans to be adaptable & flexible too.

The sheer array of formations in his 'pre-season' (mid-flight in the season at that...) and the way he's tested players in the heat of battle has been breath taking as it has dizzying.

The formation potential you highlight above is bladdy exciting.  Fluid.  A+B.  With variations, adaptation and flexibility.

It's mouth watering.  Cash could turn out to be a hidden ace.  As a more central midfielder (his best position...) to a more ACM in attack.  That's his game, right there.  Down the throats of the opposition.  Can't wait.

I was smiling all the way through the 'diamond' formation vs Preston.  Once we took the sting out of their '1st press' we had the measure of them and squeezed the life out of them.

Young Ryan has been a breath of fresh air since he burst onto the scene and this international break will have come at a good time for him.

He had started to struggle a bit recently but the break will do him the world of good.
