The Cherries Looking For First Win The opening game of the Championship at Dean Court against one of the favourites to return straight at the first attempt after relegation from the Premier League West Brom turned out be a very entertaining 2-2 draw. The Cherries went in front twice with goals from both of their Danish midfielders, Marcondes and Billing. With Scott Parker short of some first team regulars, he had to turn to young inexperienced players who over the 90+ minutes had good games and were involved in assisting for both the goals. The result was a fair result involving two teams with very different contrasting styles of play. A trip to the land of ‘Robin Hood’ is the next adventure for the Cherries, to play Chris Hughton’s Nottingham Forest team in our first away game this season. His side finished in 17th place last season on 52 points. Forest like a number of other clubs will be hoping to strengthen their side before the close of the transfer window at the end of the month. They have so far signed a goalkeeper, the American Ethan Horvath from Club Brugge on a free transfer and Philip Zinckernagel from Watford on-loan for the season. Their most recent signing is a right back from Arsenal, Jordi Osei-Tutu, he is another season long loan. They could also still lose players going the other way. Forest played the first game of the season away at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry where the home side Coventry City returned for the first time since playing their matches at Birmingham City’s ground since August 2019. It wasn’t the most exciting game, Forest took the lead in the 36th minute after a breakaway move down the right by the pacy Brennan Johnson to put a perfect low ball into the Coventry City area for ex AFCB player Lyle Taylor to slide in and put the ball into the back of the net. It wasn’t until the last nine minutes of normal time in the second half before City were back on even terms when the Swede Victor Gyokeres scored for the home side. The game went into six minutes of injury time and with nearly the last kick of the game, the 34-year-old Coventry City captain Kyle McFadzean put the ball into the net for the winning goal. At a ground we have never won, in the February of last season the Cherries drew at the City ground in a 0-0 draw. In all our league away games against Nottingham Forest, AFCB have W 0, D 4, L 4. All competitions, AFCB have W 5, D 5, L 6. Nottingham Forest Team News Lewis Grabban missed the opening game as he was self-isolating. Also missing was Joe Worall with a calf injury. Loic Mbe Soh had to go off during the first half at the Coventry game with a groin injury. Gaetan Bong has been given a three game ban from an incident at Coventry. Nottingham Forest Player To Watch The young 20-year-old Brennan Johnson looked a good pacy player against Coventry City. He was on loan at Lincoln City last season, scored 11 goals (1 in play-offs) and had 5 assists. One player that other clubs may be sniffing around during this transfer window. AFCB Team News Jefferson Lerma still suspended. Arnaut Danjuma, will he start or is he a player that is being ‘protected’ during the transfer window? Ben Pearson reported to have recovered from illness so he could be in contention for a starting place. So far no updated official news on our other injured players and if any will be available to start/place on bench Saturday. AFCB Player To Watch Depending on who is available for Saturday, it could be one or two of our younger players may get a start again, interesting how they get on in an away game in front of a large crowd. The referee for this game is Geoff Eltringham.

Brown is going to be a right nuisance for Forest Missing Powell a bit today, his energy for the high press is so useful. But Forest are just sitting still. If we get the first goal, we could ruin these. They aren't taking any risks though. They're a decent team, compact and hard to break down. We face a different sort of problem at home when teams come to sit. If Smith could have put away that early chance it would have opened the game up. I'd take a scrappy 1-0 here. Bright opening, then a laboured half hour or so, improved last few minute test of the half. Highlight for me has been Nige tangling with Some of the Forest names We have the players on the bench to really impact play so I think we will nick this 1-0. Our visitors on Saturday suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Middlesbrough, leading to manager Chris Hughton being given the boot by former Barnsley CEO Dane Murphy. Managers like Chris Wilder, Steve Cooper and Alex Neil are being touted for the top job, whilst former Chelsea defender John Terry has gone on record as being interested in taking the position. Murphy however has shown during his time at Barnsley a habit of going for a lesser known option that buys into his principles, as seen by the appointments of Struber, Ishmail and Markus Schopp, so it would come as little surprise to see a lesser known option come through the door. It has been a dismal start to the campaign for Forest so far, with the Tricky Trees picking up just the one point against local rivals Derby and currently sit bottom, 3 points behind Peterborough, although they could move off the foot of the table if the points deduction for Derby comes through. Despite sitting bottom, they have only being losing by slight margins, 2-1 away to Coventry, thanks to two late goals. They lost 2-1 at home to ten man Bournemouth, former Town man Phil Billing getting himself on the scoresheet. Another 2-1 defeat followed at home to Blackburn, before losing 1-0 away Stoke, they managed to pick their sole point of the season before the international break away at Derby in the Brian Clough derby. September started the way August went with a 2-1 defeat at home to Cardiff, despite being 1 up for a large portion of the game, before last nights 2-0 defeat at home to Neil Warnocks Boro side. Unless they make a sudden appointment before the game, it will be former Republic of Ireland midfielders Steven and Andy Reid in the dug out against Carlos. Steven is probably most known for his time at Blackburn, mainly prior to the arrival of the Venkys, whilst Andy is a legend of Forest having come through the ranks there before joining in Tottenham in a double deal with recently retired Michael Dawson. Injuries plagued both midfielders careers, with Andy, playing 144 times in 5 years in his first spell at Forest, and then despite having a good start at Spurs before injuries saw him fizzle out with spells at Charlton, Sunderland and Blackpool before he headed back to the City Ground to play a further 119 games despite more niggling injuries. Steven began his career at Millwall and had a 5 year stint there before moving up to Ewood Park. He had 7 years there including loans out at QPR and West Brom, the WBA loan became permanent and he had a 4 year stay there, before a short spell at Burnley. Have toyed with 3-1, 3-2, 1-0, but have settled on HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 2 v NOTTINGHAM FOREST 1... Biggest worry for me today is that everyone.. media, bookies and fans think we're gonna roll them over. They've just sacked their manager which can always stir a reaction so I don't think its gonna be as easy as we think. Add the fact that Danny Ward starts again.. really hope I'm proved wrong but I'm going with 1-1. It's got disaster written all over it. My view on him is it looks great when everything is going right, but I'm still yet to be convinced he can turn things around when they're going wrong. He has to adapt to Forest now. Koroma looking as ineffective as he was in the week before he scored. Let's hope he pops another one in again. Thomas needs to be brought into the game more.
Come on Town! Jed spence got him in his back pocket so far. Good job we're a second half team. Typical performance from the away side who've just sacked their manager. We can only improve though. For the goal, why didn't Levi just shoulder barge the lad ? May have got a booking but would've at least stopped the cross C’mon Town, much better second half needed. First tester then for Town....scruffy this half - Town need to be better in midfield. Maybe Vallejo will bring a bit of class. NF will sit back the longer the game goes on and Town will hopefully punnish them.. Not being funny, but need to get Ward off. He has offered no threat up front and barely held the ball up. This is a great test now for the team. A bit sloppy by a number of players in that first half, but Forest have played well. However, they do look quite open at the back when we push forward especially on Korma's side. How many teams in the history of football have played a full 90 minutes with just one man up front when losing at home for so long. Bizarre tactics They came and did a job on us. We certainly didn't help ourselves with some sloppy passing and languid build up play, but got to give them some credit. Could see it coming a mile off unfortunately. A decent team playing our style would pass through the lines and destroy a team like Forest using the high press I’m ok with CC culture and ideology of a progressive possession game (copied from Bielsa who copied that from Cryuff ) but it’s the poor application today and CC lack of know how how to change and that’s the same in all our defeats ... we need the players to play this way it’s the right way to play city Barca Bayern even Leeds , do it amazingly well but how can we with our squad ? it’s that simple Really disappointing performance. Shades of last season lacking in ideas in the final 3rd of the pitch, and too many players had off days for us to ever really threaten. Hopefully just a blip, but fair play to Forest. We need to find a way to cope with Thomas and Koroma being heavily marked, or we’ll struggle again. Nottingham Forest Far better team than Blackpool I kind of saw this coming. We came out thinking it was going to be a walk in the park. Someone should have realized they were going to come out with the Hughton shackles off. They were more aggressive and wanted it more. Forest were at it from the first whistle, playing with more energy and purpose. Every time they ran with the ball they caused problems.
In contrast, we started slowly in both halves and couldn't raise our game. Too many players had poor games. A poor performance collectively. We couldn't get Thomas into the game in open play until far too late. Ward was unable to hold the ball up, and Sinani was hardly in the game. Koroma was quiet too. The passing was far too laboured and, with a lack of options in midfield, the ball ended up going back far too often. We couldn't get on the half turn and play forward anywhere near enough. As a result, we created next to f**k all except a couple of good headed chances from corners late on. On a positive note, I thought Holmes did well when he came on. Looked busy, energetic and was trying to make things happen. LOB was my MOM for his effort and energy, but no one played well. Just a bad day at the office. Hopefully a reality check from which everyone can learn from. I'm not one for ever leaving early but I left on 71 minutes today. We were absolutely woeful Hogg needed to be sacrificed and Vallejo needed to come on at HT. Carlos tactically can worry me sometimes. Fair play to forest they had done their homework on us and it looks like they have made a blue print on how to beat us now. Forest done a job on us. Knew from the first 10 minutes our set up was wrong but it still didn’t change. Ive seen Mipo in 3 times now and not once has he look interested in getting involved. Still looks very raw. Fair play to Holmes, actually came on and done well. But we still need this elusive creative midfielde & striker. Think forest were underestimated because of their poor start. Agree, they looked good in that first 20-25 minutes and although we came into it they were solid and we barely created anything, if only Hughton could have stayed on one more game. Forest when they played the ball down the wing actually did it and had players running onto the ball. We try to go down the wings and whoever receives it is just static, so it's easy to defend against and they have no momentum going forwards. Total lack of creativity. We can't do anything other than playing out from the back because we can't lump it forward as Ward is useless in the air (in fact generally useless), yet I feel that by always playing out from the back, we'll get caught out and concede eventually. It also means no variety to try and cause a bit of confusion in terms of will we lump it, play it out from the back or something else. We got what we deserved. Nothing. Simple as that. Just not at the races today. But look at the other results today. A competitive league it's anybody"s. The last time we played them before Covid one Muppet was ranting and raving about Arthur Scargill and what a set of bastards we are in Yorkshire, that was by the coaches and the Police and steward You could see what was going to happen in the first ten minutes. I said to my neighbour that it was Town that appeared to be bottom of the league. It continued like that for the full 90 minutes. And Turton is no where near a Championship player - that was a dreadful signing. Forest wanted it more today and deserved the win We had a low tempo and most of the team put in 5/10 performances. Most players lost their individual battles against players prepared to work harder than them and hurt more on the day. Positive for me is that despite being second best we could have drawn if lees and Turpin had scored those corners - I fancy us now to score every time we get a corner and we’re a real threat against any side in this league as a result of our set pieces Negative in open play we lack creativity to break down sides - second half forest sat deep after they scored their second and despite all the possession I don’t recall a save of note from the forest keeper in that half. We really need to buck up our ideas in open play. It was quite easy to keep us at arms length in open play I’m not overly down though. Forest are in a false position with their squad and the town players overall have done great this season. On to the next game! They were at it, we weren’t. Man for man a lot of their players are better than our equivalent and forest won their individual battles. Carlos should’ve done more to change it although the bench wasn’t flush with options. Mipo looks a few yards off the pace and we need him up to speed soon. The Town wasn't too bad today, some times you have to give the other team credit. Forest were very good today. As has been said they were really up for it, obviously had something to prove. They have some very good players and they all gave 100%. First goal was an excellent quick break, great cross and an unstoppable header by Grabban. Second goal we were slow restarting the second half and messed up a clearance, they were sharp and clinical to make us pay. Turton came on to release Thomas further up field but it had little effect, not Turton's fault. Sinani didn't seem to fit where he was playing, there was very little interplay between him and Thomas and the 'clever' corner taking looks like a waste of time. I thought Holmes did well. Battled and tried to be creative but at 2-0 up they had shut up shop and the general movement around him was poor. We needed someone to link the back three to front players in the first half and Hogg, for all his qualities, is not that player. Forest thoroughly deserved the win. Quicker, stronger and better on the ball all over the park. We need to decide how Thomas and Toffolo are going to play. Neither is really a defender and if decent wingers get up against them, as today, it is dangerous. Their right winger burnt past Toffolo a few times. Looked quite disjointed today. I really don't think we are a top six side, top half of the table though probably. On we go. |
