Players in this division do not regularly convert chances in those positions, at least the average ones don't, hence why they are average. We see it week after week, year after year, supporting Forest! Average players at this level do tend to hit runs of form, where chances will go in but can't maintain that forever due to many variables, the main one being that they are, ultimately, average. The better the player the more likely they are to convert the opportunity, their to goal to shot ratio improves, and they play at a higher level.
On your final point I was generalising and don't consider McKenna to be average, although I think he has got away largely unscathed in terms of criticism for the Swansea goal compared to those around him. I'm on the fence regarding Knockaert and have commented on him and the feedback from my Fulham supporting mate, we've seen players with his ability in the past rapidly deteoriate (after injury, or something worse, Zack Clough is a good example of this by all accounts). I think we rode our luck with Grabban last year and he performed above his level in some ways, not just for his goals return but his contribution to the Team. I believe that we're paying for that now and Taylor is showing how hard it is to replicate that kind of contribution on a regular basis.
Whilst I’m not unhappy with McKenna’s performances ( far from it ) I’m not joining the ‘love in’ just yet. In a way he’s been both lucky ( with so many poor individual performances around him he can’t help but look the best of the bunch ) & unlucky ( to come into a side struggling so badly ).

What did Steve Hodge say?

I didn’t hear it but - according to someone on here - he questioned the efforts of some ( can’t recall the exact wording ). Pretty damning words from an ex pro.

Far be it for me to disagree with Steve Hodge but I suggest that was a bit of a throw away comment. Of all the things that arent going right I dont think lack of effort is one of them. Certainly for those on the pitch they were trying, making mistakes definitely, not performing to their best definitely, but they were putting effort in. I cant say the same for those not in the team, perhaps that is what he is alluding too.
He didnt suggest a reason for the lack of effort either did he?

He actually said they were passive. I agree. The throw ins for example we were passive for theirs and our own. It’s not players individually not putting in a shift - I bet our running stats were higher than Swansea’s- it’s the collective that is not there.
That’s how o interpreted his remarks and he is spot on!

I'm not posting the whole article on here as it's massive, but there's a long read from Dan Taylor on The Athletic today:
Some of it covers ground that's been mentioned before, some of it I've not read previously. Interesting that, towards the end, it says Vrentzos is trying to change his approach and keep his distance more. Let's see if it helps. Something needs to.

Well I found the article to be interesting and articulate.
I know one certain forum owner who is going to go ballistic when he reads this article.
However, as a result of my bust up with Sniff a few weeks ago about a similar article by DT, I am not going to comment on it further. Partly out of respect for Sniff, but partly because I am sick and tired of going over the same ground time and time again.

I thought large parts of ot were nonsense. An article based on heresay and gossip designed to do damage.
