What Is The Clubs Transfer Strategy
Every window should - with sensible planning - be part of long term strategy.

This window has been all about - and this isn’t a criticism - putting a massive sticking plaster over a gaping hole.

It doesn't look obvious to me Widdow, care to explain?

Krovinovic, Garner and Murray just until the end of the season.

They were clear attempts, Hughton's choices, to rebalance the attacking part of the squad and definite attempts to provide targeted quality.

It's clear to me that Chris has the final say with the rest of recruitment in support of his efforts.

It's a new direction.  Interesting article in N.Post about this where Chris talks about this.  And the Director of Football (Gary..?) was mention as was the Owner and Chairman.

Chris has mentioned previously that there is forward planning (always) but that this window had to be about Forests current situation.

You make my point, what is the long term strategy in that?

Could have used this window to look at players for next season as well, perhaps from League one, get them involved and know the direction going (and could be good for either the championship or if we go down), means less recruitment in the summer. As it is, there is going to be another mass turnover of players.

I am also not sure they will be enough to save us from Relegation.

Next two games are absolutely massive

The long term strategy is not adding more players on long contracts while attempting to protect the team in the short term and allowing for a mini clear out in the summer. I thought this was what everyone wanted?!

Also not sure I've mentioned it but WE'RE IN A PANDEMIC, no-one has any money.

Errrmmmm, sign players on permanent deals, that have been fully scouted, maybe.

Harry Pickering, the 21 year old left back Blackburn signed would've been good.

Gosgrove the striker Birmingham bought at 24 could've been a better option (and long term) than murray, they aslo spent £300k on a young striker from Man City and tried to buy another striker from Scotland for £3m in Nesbitt, which was turned down. They are just above us in the table.

QPR did well in the Jan market (short and long term signings), lets see how they creep away from relegation zone.

But hey who cares, we got a 37 year old striker (1 goal in 18 months) to compete against our current 30 plus not scoring strikers.

He referenced the technical director - Dourekas - and director of football ( development ) - Gary.

Still unclear re the exact responsibilities - but I would think Gary’s brief is predominantly to identify the younger players with his realm of responsibility extended from the Academy to include young first team talent.

The biggest problem for me is that we have signed player who are just not invested in the outcome of this season.

All 4 will be gone at the end of the season without a second thought for NFFC.
Murray will move in to a nursing home
garner back to Man UTD
Knocks will play in the championship with Fulham
Krov back to Benfica to be passed on elsewhere.

Long term planning isn’t difficult in January at all... we could have gone for players performing at lower leagues whose clubs, similar to us with math cash, wouldn’t have been able to stop them wanting to pay at a higher level. Yes you can argue that they are untested in the champ but at least they have been playing regular football and would be hungry to play at a higher level and would be our players.

A decent scouting network would have players like this identified. Other clubs manage it. Our scouting network is centred around players who play for Benfica Or olympiacos, players the managers have worked with before or players who have played in the premier/been promoted from the championship.

Yes finances around the world are dire but no one is asking for 10s of millions to be spent. In fact, I imagine the wages of the loans and so called experienced players we have are far higher than those of younger players elsewhere.

BUT... we have what we have now and we have to get behind the 11 that take to the pitch as well as the manager. If these are CHs players signed he will be gone if they don’t work out. Until then we all want the same outcome.

Ultimately the blame for our situation lies at one persons feet and it is their responsibility to fix this.

How do you know that those random players would have been good Widdow? Were Mckay, Cummings, Clough, Aryibi good for us? Everytime now a Championship club signs a player from League 1 or two some say they would have been good for us. On what basis would they have been good for us? It's pure guesswork and pure fiction.

Above you say sign players on permanent deals, isn't that what you and others have been complaining about previously?

Nobody is out of contract in January and the window only opens for 30 days. Lets see what happens in the summer when players are put of contract and the window is open longer.

They can't win mate, sign players, don't sign players, older players, younger players, some people will always choose to be critical rather than realistic.

I think the next release of accounts will hopefully open people's eyes a bit as to how much of a hit the owners are taking and the gravity of the situation if they did choose to stop funding the clubs losses.

True Wassy. I said it last week and I will say it again.

We are damned if we do and we are damned if we don't.

NO one has money, shame we dont and have owners willing to invest, as in a pandemic, good bargains to be had!

They are investing, to the tune of 35m operating losses minus whatever we make in transfer sales. Plus whatever extra losses we took on from no crowds, which based on our last accounts looks to be around 10m plus any TV rebates or anything like that.
