People are referring to the Spuds saga.  I think what f****d us in the summer was the Elanga sale.  I still don't understand it. 

Anyway, the only two newbies who seem to be contributing to the team are Luiz and Savona.  I thought the Italian did well considering he was up against Semenyo...

But again, going forward we are totally anemic.

100%, particularly if there was known interest in MGW too and at the time he wasn't expected to sign a new deal. I suspect most would rather swap them now if we could.

I totally get why you find him frustrating but I sense a general pile on making him the scapegoat for all that’s gone wrong this season. He isn’t performing but neither are plenty of others and all the off the pitch stuff that’s happened isn’t his fault either

Err, some of it is. It's say his actions in the summer contributed in some part to our current demise.

What did he do exactly in the summer that has contributed to our current demise?

He was our best player and he walked out on us a few days after Elanga left.  It will have been hugely destabilising for the club and the other players. And let's not forget he leaked the release clause to Spurs so he could make a few more millions for himself.

Irrelevant now but I do wonder if the Spuds offer had come in before the Elanga sale, we would have accepted the situation and kept Elanga?
Would have been a bit less FFP profit in that scenario but also maybe we wouldn’t have spunked £100m on 3 very similar wingers.

Walked out on us? He's allowed to be interested in signing for another team when they make an offer. He also didn't choose to sell Elanga, that's not his fault.

I'm sorry there's no way he went to his agent and asked him to leak the release clause or even more ridiculously that he rang up Daniel Levy himself and told him. 

I would imagine he asked/told his agent to get it done and this was the agent's attempt to get it done.

I think last Jan the club probably promised him he could go in the summer if he stuck with us.

Some conspiracies about MGW above but this one is wrong too. The Anderson/Vlach deal was ancient history, didn’t rely on future deals, its not our fault we got the better of the deal. If you remember Newcastle fans at the time would have been happy with £15m for him and were laughing at £35m.

For that reason it does irk me that they seem to think he is here on loan and they can automatically buy him back. Going back to the thread title that is the scenario that worries me in January somewhat.
Finally yes I do suspect we promised Elanga he could go for the right offer.

I'm not disputing that he had every right to leave, but if the club didnt even know he was leaving, and Spurs had at that point booked him in for medical, I'd say thats the true definition of a player walking out on a club.

We seem to be playing teams at the wrong times too. Sunderland and Burnley are on cloud 9 at the moment and Sunderland’s win at Chelsea proves. Bournemouth at home with them firmly in the top 4 at the moment - Newcastle and Arsenal away are always difficult. West Ham is the only real shocker and there was more to that in retrospect. We need to start using the squad better - McAtee, bakwa, Juliana and Hutchinson are big worries -
