Something Jock mentioned today made me bring back this thread.

There seems to be a huge difference in our success rate in our North European signings compared with our South European signings.

Good signings from North Europe over the years:

Bohinen, Van Hooijdonk, Roy, Van Breukelen, Aas, Metgod, Majeski, Louis Jean, Haaland.

Good signings from South Europe over the years ?

All top class players we have signed from abroad.

Some talent there. What a great spine of a team that would be.

Amen.

Simply put I think that the Northern climate, environment & culture is way more similar to ours than the Southern one, and therefore breeds players who feel far more at home & familiar with the game over here.

I'm struggling to think of 1 good Southern European player?

Neither Porfirio or Pinilos can be talked about in the same breath as our top North European Players.
