NFFC Foreign Players Over The Years - Mad Mel - 05-08-2019
Been a lot of talk about foreign players on this forum recently that got me thinking back to some of the foreign players we have had over the years.
My personal favourite was Hans Van Breukelen, I thought he was a great goalkeeper.
If memory serves me well I think our first ever foreign signing was Raymondo Ponte?

We have had some great ones and some really bad ones over the years.
One of the worst was Silenzi the Italian striker signed by Frank Clark.
One of the best was Bryan Roy. His partnership with Stan Collymore was pure class.

Louis Jean, Hjelde, Aas, Bonalair or Brennan.
Orligsson, Metgod , Bohinen, Majeski
Roy, Van Hooijdonk
Non is from UK or Ireland had to be genuine overseas signings, not likes of David Johnson (Jamaica)
Probably missed loads, but shows how bad our record is of overseas signings when this is the best I can think of!! Moussi and one or two others came into my thoughts, but I went with the above.
I could name 2 of 3 teams of rubbish easily! Gets you thinking though.

Got some cracking memories of Johnny Metgod.
Some of his free kicks were fantastic and he was a great passer of the ball.

Johnny Metgod: In terms of contribution, surely the best overseas signing we've ever made? Even did a job at Centre Back for us for a bit. Classy player, always seemed to have so much time on the ball. Best free kick specialist we've ever had too??
