Me too.  He seems like a class act.  He's been described as 'quite a unit.'  Seems all action.  Is he the Chris Cohen heir apparent..?

I think it was Taylor of the NEPost saying that he offered something different for Forest's midfield.  Plays simple.  Gets the ball and looks to pass it forward.  That's the kind of player who can get the team ticking.

Has he seemed overawed in any of the pre-season games playing in the 'two' in front of the defence?

I think it's in the NEP today that Karanka wants him to have games to speed his development at this level, but if DCM (i.e. Colback) doesn't come off in the transfer market then he might have to reassess Yates doing out on loan.

Surely worth being on the bench to come on as opposed to playing for another Championship team?  He seems good enough now to do that with Forest.

Well just thinking out loud here but watson and geddy have what 2 seasons left in them so i would be thinking long term that Yates goes on loan and plays a full season as first choice somewhere else. Then the next season when watson and geddy are slowing down he shares the load in the first team and then the season after that he replaces at least one of them as the first team starter and what he will be 22/23 so a good age for a premier league midfielder.

That does seem sensible particularly if it’s in the championship. I think it’s only worth keeping him if we’re confident he’ll get plenty of game time. By all accounts though this is a possibility based on pre season.

Then the next season when watson and geddy are slowing down he shares the load in the first team and then the season after that he replaces at least one of them as the first team starter and what he will be 22/23 so a good age for a premier league midfielder.

(I think the players Forest have signed can take the pressure of all the Academy products and they can develop at a more natural pace.  Smith, Worrall, Brereton seemed to have the weight of the world on their shoulders last season.  Cash seemed less affected.  Karanka will have a more tempered (re-)introduction of Academy products to the Forest team as and when deemed necessary and can do a job when called upon, taking the pressure off them 'leading' the line as the had to, at times, last season.  Hopefully they will flourish with better quality experienced players around them.)

Well, I'm guessing Yates won't get a game ahead of Watson and 'Colback'(?) and there's Bridcutt and Geddy to get past as well.  So, Forest are well stocked in CM...(IF Colback signs...) however...

On the plus side, he seems to have impressed pre-season and seems slightly different to the rest of the CMs Forest have?  (His heart seems Forest through and through, as well.  He seems like Chris Cohen 'all action' type of player?)

If he does go on loan to another Championship side, I'd like it to only be until January.  If he his development comes along in the right way, there is a chance he could play a part in a promotion push.

He seems like a player hungry to learn and for success.

Last week I was in the City hospital on a appointment. I got talking to a nice chap, a staunch NCFC fan.  He was ranting about Yates like a loon at times. Telling me, he was the best teenager he had seen in a Notts shirt. Apparently he was always mouthing at the old hands and yelling instructions. Football wise, win the ball. Have a look and a simple pass to get the momentum going. Best DCM he had seen for ages and he insisted that Yates will captain Forest one day.  Notts fell apart last January when he left. They then turned to hoof ball without him and it was shit to watch.

I get the impression that Yates has surprised the manager in Pre-season in that he is better than he thought. Ryan is 20 and as the saying goes if he is good enough he is old enough. Should be playing at Championship level and I would prefer it to be with Forest.

His form in pre-season?  Something for Karanka to think about.  I'm leaning to him being involved with Forest if he's going to play at this level.  He could learn a lot from Watson and senior CMs.  I think he seems a bit different to what Forest have.  Seems to look for the forward pass.  Plays it nice and simple.  

Corking header in pre-season game.  Scored in another match in a training game too.  

The football romantic would love to see him in the Forest midfield putting in some crunching tackles, showing leadership and passing it simply forward.

I'm curious as to whether Karanka keeps him in the squad or loans him out.  He's developing at a fair clip.  Does him being in the Forest squad stunt his development i.e. does he get games or do Forest loan him out to get games and play him with a recall in January?

Yates continues to surprise & astonish people but has been doing so for several years. I recall being not particularly impressed by him as he rose through the youth teams believing him to lack the requisite skill set & pace to go all the way. No one though could ever doubt the confidence & leadership qualities of ‘Giggsy’.
It is fantastic - and inspiring - to witness the sheer determination of a young player to achieve his goals.
Wouldn’t it be just great if the ‘ugly duckling’ of the youth team turned out to be a real star!

(Who'd have thought Forest would have 8 Academy products with the 1st team on the Spanish training camp?  Training with record breaking signings of 13 million, 6 million...and even Dawson is back and 9 signings in this Summer alone.  It's like some crazy dream a Forest fan might wake up from.

Gary Brazil & The Forest Academy are doing a tremendous job of rolling talent off the production line.)
