Playing devil’s advocate. Were people happy with Dyche’s tactics/style etc against Porto, Liverpool, Leeds, Spurs etc?? Yes I know there have been some shocking performances (Everton x2, Bournemouth) but those for me is partly Dyche and partly the inconsistency of our players. I feel these latest performances however stem from a) badly missing Sangare (and to some extent Yates) and b) players like Anderson, Williams needing a rest but not having reliable players to step in.
So yes, disappointing performances lately but I say lets judge once Sangare is back at 6, a rested Anderson is back at 8 driving us forward with MGW at 10 not having to try to link midfield and attack all by himself. Dare I say a ala the Spurs game? Also now we have last seasons back 4 all available hopefully our wingers can be more attack minded and free to take their defenders on.
Yep, I'd agree with that. You can see that the players are wilting and that's not necessarily Dyche's fault. That's why I'm very critical of Edu.

Starting to wonder whether we should dig up the match threads from those games to show what people were saying at the time. Its been good, its been very bad - but lets assess at the season end and not have a meltdown at being 7 points clear of relagation because its not pretty.
I can completely understand the unhappiness of some but yes we need to look at the full picture. The opening game of the season showed what these players can do as have the wins against Liverpool etc and performance against City. Likewise the loss v West Ham, Bournemouth and poor performances lately have shown our frailties. We capitulated and conceded sloppy goals under Nuno at times last season, againstart of this season and under Ange and Dyche. Surely that should tell us something and that this isn’t all on the manager. Btw I’ve seen some fans have digs at Dyche saying he never takes the blame. To be fair I am yet to see him take the credit either. When we win he puts it on the players, likewise when we lose.
Dyche does seem a bit teflon though. The other day he was pointing out he inherited a team 2 points below the relegation line and now its +7. Why does he feel the need to point that out? I guess it's because he's spent his managerial career having to justify himself.

Being out of the cup doesn’t bother me this year. That first half performance was crap though. Awful. Pretty obvious that Sels is carrying an injury but no trust in Gunn. Hutchinson was very poor and mcatee- again will get pelters. I actually want to stick up a bit for mcatee - thought he looked great first 20 minutes But was let down by poor movement and no one showing for a pass. However, that triangle of mcatee zinc and morato on the left hand side was so weak and was where our problems started. Zinc is so so poor - I thought he was a marvellous footballer and just poor at physical side of defending but no he is just shite. Ndoye always feels like he is playing at 50%~ he has it in his locker put doesn’t trust himself and gives it easy. Hutchinson has now cost us goals with his dallying on the ball in the last two games. Also our 4231 is so bad. He should have played wingbacks last night with Bakwa and Ndoye which would have enabled us to match them and get players around Jesus - he could have done it in game but no - stick to a template that is easy to play. No rotations - no tweaks - massive gaps between lines- passive pressing- just awful.
After the money spent we should have so much more to show for it - this just makes it easier for Dyche to run the first 11 into the ground going forward. Luiz is a decent player but he his slow and lacks the engine I’m afraid to say- that was one of his strengths at Villa. They sold him for a reason! He will probably need to go back now to be fair to him.
Special mention though to Savona - my MOM. Composed and solid defensively.

Yep adds a bit of perspective doesn’t it. Palace bought 3 big names on at half time too including Brennan for his debut, its not easy to turn it around when there is no initial momentum.
Back to us and genuinely Im not embarrassed by last night. 2nd half and extra time we looked far superior to a decent Championship team. You may say we should have done but its not a given, the point is we had players on the pitch that looked quality and that reassures me. So we lost on penalties, didn’t help the mood but February fixtures are hugely congested assuming Europa games, we didn’t need a 4th round match too.

We didn’t need the extra matches- especially as Dyche clearly doesn’t rate half of the squad. He doesn’t tend to change much once he settles on his first 11 and runs them into the ground. Yates or snagare play that the first half doesn’t happen.
We clearly need some physicality up top though. Playing Jesus last night for the length he did was shocking if we don’t get another striker in this week. He was knackered…

Not sure Taiwo would get in the Wrexham team though, thats why.
Got a goal at least and a week off now. More worrying is what happens if Jesus gets booked vs Braga or injured at all, who's the backup striker? MGW? Bakwa? Morato?! Does Dyche know how to play a false nine?

It was obvious that we had to field some of the squad members to see what we had and let's face it losing to Hollywoodf FC isn't ideal but I don't believe this game was a priority. Cunha came out of this game looking decent. I didn't actually have too much of a problem with Luiz. He was unlucky with the goal that was disallowed and he was spraying the ball around. He does have class and if he can stay fit would be a real asset. Hutchinson is a massive mixed bag. Looks great going at players but he was in the wrong position for their first goal. Shades of Morgan against a couple of sides earlier this season. Trying to dribble out of a problem. Yes he is inconsistent and I knew he would miss the penalty unfortunately but I didn't think he was aweful. Morato, that is another thing altogether. He is a accident waiting to happen and if one of the Milan's want him then sure, let him go. Jair is ahead of him for me. Zinchenko. I have made it clear that he is not a defender and he has been injured or just caught out of position since he got here. Wrong signing for us. Send him back to Arsenal.
McAtwee. I was perplexed that he was in the six position. I mean, that is not where he plays right? Anyway, he went missing in a major way but it was odd he was so far back. I think he needs a loan to get his confidence back. He just doesn't fit us at the moment (if at all).
As it stands, the subs were the correct call as Bakwa who has tons of ability was running into blind alleys. N"Doye looks just very short of confidence. And a bit weak...
CHO was excellent. So was Morgan. Taiwo I love him, but he is shot unfortunately. Jesus. That poor b*****d. He needs support.
Etc etc.
