NFFC News None Transfer Related
Well I have been critical but the news of Gaz Brazil effectively becoming a director of football (development) is a fantastic move. Domestic scouting is now in domestic hands. I have no problem with international scouting being Modesto’s area as he seems to have done pretty well with olympiocos and if used to enhance and the domestic area then great. Cat 1 application also seems to have gone in and poo poos some of DT gripes. However, I fully believe this is something that has been done as a direct reaction of his outburst...

I thought Gaz Braz and Jack Lester were behind the signings of Ariyibi and Clough from a scouting perspective?

Well done GB, I have been advocating a DOF role for him for some time, although not as such its well on the way and he will also I assume he will have an input in to UK based young football talent working alongside whoever decides on transfers and policy. Cat 1 application is fantastic and a very good indicator that the Owner and his CEO realise that a potentially large income stream can be brought into the clubs coffers while outside of the Premier league by selling talent and balancing the books. The only downer I have is if you recall GB was responsible along with FH in bringing Zak Clough into the club!

Clough- Who hit decent form for first few months and then was involved in a tragedy that obviously really affected him.

Overseeing probably means structures and strategy - not actual individual transfer decisions

Ozzy, I bow to your better judgement regards Clough was this the incident with his agent?

Yes... it is a shame and he just couldn’t get going again even back ‘home’ at Bolton. Like I said it won’t be Gaz Brazil actually choosing players - just overseeing how we scout them. Also really important at developing relationships with clubs for loaning players for their development and ultimately our benefit. Worrall, cash, Burke etc all had loans to help development...

Great news about Gary Brazil. Cat 1 is finally going to happen.

Great news though and very positive indeed.

Not sure if it's long overdue. There were certain things that needed to be put in place frst unless you want your application rejecting. There was no point applying just for the sake of applying. There was a lot of work to do. Those things take time. Now that everything is in place the application is in.

‘Going to happen’?
A lot of water to travel under the bridge first...

You are correct Sniff, you cannot just bang in an application on a whim, my comment was more a long term one, we should have been working towards this when the new academy system was introduced 10 years ago but of course we had the wasted years until recently.

I was trying to find a summary list of requirements for Cat 1, cant see one but basically there is an 80 page document around policy for youth development which gives you an idea of the complexities which feed into every level of how the club operates.

A quick summary
Cat 1 This is the highest classification awarded to an Academy. It is an elite environment where Academy Players are provided with additional access to coaching and the potential of full time education from U12. Category 1 Academies can recruit nationally from U12 provided the Academy Player is guaranteed access to a full time education programme.
Cat 2 This is an elite development environment where Academy Players are typically recruited locally but gain access to additional coaching opportunities and education support.

Unless things have changed very recently the situation is as follows:

The application process for Cat 1 takes place over a three year cycle; fail or miss the application and it is a three year wait for the next opportunity - this will be the first opportunity for the current ownership to submit a credible application.

The problem we had in the past related to not being able to house the education centre on the Academy site; it looks like this has changed.

There is also the small fact that we must ringfence around 3m per year to fund the Academy at that level, although the recent sales of former Academy players more than covers that

Can someone tell Danny Taylor that highlighted above.

Sorry I couldn't resist  :)
