He was proven and did a good job at Arsenal, he was a well known and respected figure who knew the league and also the Brazilian market etc. You can see the thinking behind it and I think we all agreed at the time that it was a bit of a scoop for us.
Also you would have expected our coach at the time to get along and forge a good relationship with the new global head of football.
The rest is history of course but as I said it did look a very good piece of business at the time.

Hindsight is an unfair tool with which to judge.
However…. There were clues. I recall Arsenal’s lack of signing a striker (window after window) being regularly bemoaned and debated.
It’s a scenario we are now all too familiar with at NG2 (though to be fair, it’s also been a long standing issue at Forest since Grabban became a pensioner).
