This 'souless bowl' fan criticism of new stadiums is a bit of a red herring imo. Those bowls are the likes of Leicester, Reading, and the Sheep's stadiums. Those were all noughties stadiums built to the lowest possible budget to replace stadiums that were completely unfit for purpose at the turn of the century. They have zero design merit and a classic example of practicality and cost being given priority over function. Fan atmosphere, quality of architecture, etc were never part of the design brief and since they were built Stadium design has moved on significantly. After all, a quarter of a century has now passed since they were conceived.
