2020/21 Season: Could We See A Change In Playing Style?

I don't think we have enough CHs for it.  Or a mobile enough CH for it.

Wasn't convinced, at times, by the Fig and Worrall partnership when it was put under duress.
 But you need to bring in those 'Plan B and C' players

Yeah.  Between that late game and stoppage time.  It came up time and again.  Last minute goals.

Lack of concentration?  Fitness?  Mental toughness?  Not enough monster?

The back line needs the bag shaking.

We defend with the whole team so it's a bit unfair to just blame the back four when we concede a goal. When the players in front of the back four get passive and stop pressing as a collective then it is very difficult for the back four to fill the gaps that will appear. In general I believe Figs and Worrall are a very good CB pairing. Would have liked a bit more pace but I guess you can't have it all. A Worrall or Figs with pace would have been snapped up by the bigger teams already.

It is a front to back game.  And between the ACM and Striker positions...it does 'bounce' back to the back line alarmingly quickly.  It probably and certainly cost a few goals.  Just how long does the back line have to absorb that kind of pressure before being subsumed.  Yes. 

Yes.  A Worrall or Figs with pace.

Ergo.  Forest.  Get another CH in...who can.  Coupled with Big Ben (mighty Beast...and over his injury?) we will then have a CH back line to match our ambition..?

Certainly, our new ACM loanee will help out.  And our new striker.  Different players to what we had (or rather..didn't have last season.)

You still need the players to make a system work.  And that includes our back line.  Sitting too deep at times with Watson...and Figs/Worrall.  Especially when the pressure was on.

Our back line was a Faultline in some aspects last year.  And pace was one aspect.  

Not having 'other' options or in depth options, pace...or a 'big lad up front' or an actual ACM hurt our cause.

Would prefer to see the Karanka 4231 than our current tactic. We basically played the personnel for that anyway just not in that shape. Would allow some freedom for then AMC whether its freeman or Carv and support for the striker. We should also consider keeping the ball more

I quite liked Aitor's tenacious style of football.

Today.  All I get is that we don't deal with stuff at the back.  We don't keep possession.  And we don't create.

I was referring to the shape as opposed to how it was executed. Thought it was easy for everyone to know their role and a solid base

I liked Karanka’s style too, but we ended up finishing 9th after he left. Who knows where we would have finished if he’d stayed. We finished 7th last season so Sabri wins.  :)

Haha its not a battle between them, although I'm sad we never got to say where we'd have finished that year.

My view is we would have finished top six if Karanka had seen out the season. He also got the best out of Carvalho, but what will be will be.

Different coaches have different fundamental ways of playing, and this is Sabri’s. Some players flourish under one coach and then struggle under the next. Some the opposite, Watson for instance. The bottom line is how many points they collect. I’m sure Sabri is aware that he has to be in the top six almost from the get go.
