I don't get the thought that our fans enjoying the win will spur Villa on. Surely players on both sides are about as motivated as they can be because of the chance of reaching a European final and chance of silverware. If not are they are needing to be picky at behaviour of opposition fans, then questions need asking.

One thing that stood out last night was how weak our bench was compared to theirs in terms of experience and perceived quality.

There’s quite a bit of work to do on that aspect in the Summer if we want to finish outside the bottom five.

A lot of that is down to injury and not being able to select Netz/Taiwo too though. If we ever get back in Europe we definitely need to do better on using those 4 academy spots. 

Probably not overly realistic but if we could somehow get Cash back, the Neco/Cash pairing at fullback would be pretty dreamy.

I completely agree, it’s one of the reasons that I was loudly advocating that we sign Darlow last Summer, who has gone on to have a decent season with Leeds. 

Cash, Lascalles, Ahmedzovic and Worrall would have likely been better options to have on the bench and, with the exception of Cash, would probably be happy to take a Premier League salary to be part of the second string. 

I’ve always maintained that you shouldn’t buy squad players but the way the rules in Europe are applied I think I disagree with that now to a certain extent.

Problem being the selling clubs and agents know they have you by the short and curlies!
