There’s been a lot of BS written on here recently.
We have a team (with accountant's) to keep us within FFP rules, which they should have done.
Barring an almighty c**k-up, if we are in breach, it’s therefore to do with one (or both) of two things-
1. Subjective interpretation of the value of disallowable costs for FFP; and/or
2. The timing of recognition of the Brennan sale in this or last year’s accounts.
There are clear accounting principles (see IAS37 on contingent asset recognition) that allow for at least part of the Brennan deal to be included in last season’s accounts). We must follow those rules.
However, those accounts are not the figures upon which we are judged for FFP; there are adjustments made to those figures in conjunction with the governing body (the PL) to assess compliance. This is the grey area.
If the PL are after a political sacrifice then yes, it might be awkward but there are a multitude of factors in our favour, not least of all the overriding intent of the FFP rules as the club have hinted in their statement.
I still find it hard to see how an independent tribunal would uphold a severe penalty (points deduction) when they cut out the white noise.
There are two caveats- the lengths the PL will go to for political purposes and the possibility we’ve made an almighty c**k-up. Clearly let’s hope this isn’t a direct result of incompetence.

Sorry this is off topic but cant help myself.
Murphy was 34 years old when he signed and cost us £2m fee plus a 4 year contract on high wages. He played well for a few months got injured and was never seen again. Terrible deal for a club with limited resources and no resale value.
That was exactly the type of signing we repeated so often that condemned us to 22 years of lower league football.

No he was a non executive chairman to do Q&As with fans and be front of house. He has no power or decision making and wasn’t involved in transfers or contracts.
As for the lawyer QC side - Shows how bad Randall was they have had to bring in someone proper to fight the charges.

I personally don’t warm to Randall but don’t doubt his ethics or efforts.
I have only second-hand feedback about him from a close friend who was interviewed on two separate occasions by him for a role at Forest a few years back (ironically, I believe, for one of the unfilled posts that Widdow keeps bleating on about)!
He was offered the role by Randall twice and turned him down twice; however he spoke highly of him from his meetings and only declined as Forest were still in the championship at the time and he moved to a PL club.

Just tongue in cheek from me regarding the mess we see ourselves in..
As I've said before not surprised if they spent big and genuinely thought it would just be a fine of sorts once caught/charged. That is until the Everton penalty happened
