I'd of taken a good run in the cup, I wish I could say and feel the same as you but a good cup run and good cup games are everything to me. Anyway I'm going the opposite to you, the ''not even slightly bothereders'' if you like Paint Dry you should be bothered, very bothered, he's going to disappear to the mother ship and his brain sucked out soon, though I'm wondering if it has already happened. I want a manager who is bothered about the League Cup and destroying sides and particularly about getting revenge on teams like Barnsley, we should of relegated them last season and in effect if anything they destroyed our season and everything our manager is about, he should of taken it personally. Yes, I'd love us to play them off the park but I would of taken a bruising win with us getting 8 yellows and 2 reds, but we don't seem to have either of these types of games in us. It is about winning and at the moment there are no excuses, if Sabri is any good he finds a way to win, but even then he has to infuse purpose, belief and confidence into the side, this is where the problem is, he thinks like you, he's damaged, but then again so am I for wasting my time and thinking the guy is going to put things right. RE: Transfers In/Out Summer 2020 - Sausage Roll - 06-09-2020 Great post. RE: Transfers In/Out Summer 2020 - Long John - 06-09-2020 I too like Sabri and want him to succeed but I fear his teams and style won’t change. We score and sit back, we fail to break teams down particularly at home. He has tried to bring in players like Freeman to help this and time will tell. Leopards never change there spots and il be pleasantly surprised if Sabri did. For me we were lucky to finish where we did last season. I remember a tiny handful of games where I thought we played well. We were dogged in defence but got found out towards the end. You need to score to get out of this league his teams need more attacking threat than the style he plays. Really hope he proves me wrong but I can’t see him being here in 6 - 8 weeks time. Majority of the teams promoted over the last 20 years are in and around the top goalscorers in the division. But every league table is there, a couple of low scoring teams were Huddersfield and Birmingham to go up. But they are the minority when looking through the tables. Totally agree ^ RE: Transfers In/Out Summer 2020 - JollyLolly - 06-09-2020 Agree with LJ post, I think most supporters like the man but his footballing style is alien to most of the older forum members. Fans obviously like to see winning football and see their team towards the top of the table, but when you reflect on the numerous poor performances and lady luck to get you into that position you hanker for the better footballing games even though you may have lost out in a 7 or 8 goal thriller! Don’t agree with that I’m afraid. Liking or appreciating ‘footballing style’ has bugger all to do with the age of the fan. RE: Transfers In/Out Summer 2020 - Sabricadabra - 06-09-2020 I remember the Liverpool players moaning because we parked the bus against them at home, away, and in the cup final. I remember watching the 1980 European Cup final when we sat back for 90 mins. If it was now I imagine the possession stats would have been very low. If Sabri’s football style is alien to some older forum members then they must have short memories. RE: Goals And Creativity - ThePromisedLand - 06-09-2020 Can’t say I’m particularly fussed about getting knocked out of the Cup yesterday. What does grate is the absolutely insipid performance - we were truly shocking. This thread is labelled ‘Goals & Creativity’ - again I’m not too fussed. We all want to see a winning team - goals & creativity would be an enormous bonus. But I’ll be happy - at least in the short term - with a few 1-0 wins. Success breeds success - let’s establish our best ( most effective ) team, get back to winning ways & take it from there. RE: Transfers In/Out Summer 2020 - ThePromisedLand - 06-09-2020 There we go again - what is this fixation with older members being somehow poorly educated when it comes to various styles of football. Ageist? RE: Transfers In/Out Summer 2020 - JollyLolly - 06-09-2020 1979 and 1980 European cup finals were different (I was lucky enough to attend both), against Malmo we were expected to win and had most of the play and possession, while the following year Hamburg were the favourites and we had to play on the break similar to how we seem to always play now. My point is that we adapted to the opposition but we could unlike now pressure a team for the full 90 mins or defend for the same period. SL does not seem willing or is unable or change to adapt to the opposition, we always start on the back foot, it would be nice to see this change this season! RE: Transfers In/Out Summer 2020 - Uwantlee - 06-09-2020 Look I, not knocking the counter attacking style of play... I like it. But.... how often do we counter attack. Not nearly enough and when we do we very rarely look like scoring. On top of that we never look comfortable defending or we haven’t since lockdown. If we are to continue using this style it needs to be done better. One big issue is that when we have a goal we stop counter attacking and hope to soak up pressure and see games out... if we can do that against teams like Barnsley then what hope do we have. We don’t need to play 2 dmf every game. We need to use the little possession we have better. And I am not buying this short pre season shit. It is the same for everyone. The fact he is saying Barnsley we’re ready and we are not is his fault. He is the manager, he knew it was a short turn around and he failed to get the team ready. It’s Barnsley not Barcelona and both times we have played them, they have looked like the team going for promotion. I know other teams lost this weekend, but for us it is a continuation or the end of the season. Like it or not, yesterday was an important game mentally for the players... they blew it due to shocking tactics. |
